Our Story
In 2013 we developed an unique and durable foam dog bed for our own Great Dane (Axel), due to his size and a rare bone illness we could not find comfortable and durable beds for him so we set out to design our own dog bed. After many iterations and constant innovation, we now offer the third iteration of our Axel’s Lounger which has stood the test of time. Some customers have reported that their Loungers have lasted for 5 years without a cover replacement or Foam probles. Within 6 months of the initial idea, we expanded our product range with six exciting new designs in various sizes and colors. Axel’s Pet Products was born in June/July 2014 when we launched our product offering to the public and wholesale channels via the internet. Quality foam dog bed products are rare, most bed manufacturers aim for high margins by using inferior filler products like cotton and they do not design and build beds to last for more than 1-3 years. We set out to break the mold in all of the abovementioned departments of concerns, we are obsessed with COMFORT and DURABILITY at an affordable price.
We are avid pet enthusiasts ourselves and have owned four beautiful Great Danes which we have used as test subjects and durability testers over the past 6 years, our furry gifts are called Obelix, Echo, Ice, and Axel.
Axel, our first born, was a gentle giant and the inspiration for the business name. He sadly passed away due to old age in in 2017. Ice our second daughter was born a dwarf from Echo her mother our second dog and first girl, she also passed away due to bone growth complications in late 2017. Early on we decided to hell with cheap and high-profit margins, we wanted to create the best quality products at the best price point that will last a dog its lifetime. We also set out to offer a personalized touch (by you) to really capture the spirit of your companion with our printed/personalized crate bed and crate cover products, these are still popular and are used for branding and marketing purposes by the dog show/breeding enthusiasts. We just don't sell much of these as they just last and last... With 10 years experience in the foam manufacturing and upholstery industry and a SERIOUS passion for animals/owners, we decided to combine our love for our pets with a business that would bring you and your pet great and exciting new homegrown (proudly South African) products that embody quality and companionship.
