In October last year, there was a consideration to euthanize Paddy, but Dr Mariska decided to wait for a new pain medication to become available before making that decision. On the 8th of January '24, he received his first injection, and he's scheduled to return on the 8th of February for his second one. These injections are administered monthly as part of his treatment plan.

Meet Murphy, Murphy's human parents believe that he received 9 lives at birth and they have good reason to believe so!
Murphy got himself into a bit of trouble for picking a fight with a contender about ten times his size.
When Murphy first came into the clinic, he had such extensive wounds that we were not able to simply suture them closed. But Murphy fought hard and long like one would expect from his breed!
We have been treating Murphy for two months now.
After initially being treated intensively in the hospital he is now recovering at home and visiting us for his bandage changes routinely, after a few hundred bandage changes his complete recovery is nearly in sight!

As profesionals we get frequently asked "how do I Boost my horses immunity?" Most expect a life changing product to be prescribed but the truth is good consistant daily management is most essential to have a happy healthy horse.
1. Give a well balanced diet.
2. Keep your horse fit.
3. Keep important vaccinations up to date.
4. Reduce stress.
5. Reduce exposure to disease.

โ
1. Adding supplements that might interfere with a well balanced diet. Nutritionists are well qualified scientists that makes sure that the correct ratios of minerals and vitamins are added to their daily diet. Every mineral that is added by yourself can interfere with multiple other minerals absorption and ultimately reduce their availability for normal bodily function. Rather reserve those supplements for specific occasions or conditions that requires them as prescribed by your vet.
โ
2. Irregular exercising can lead to injuries and also put unnecessary strain on the body and immunity.
โ
3. Buying your vaccines from a non-reputable source runs the risk of the cold chain being broken and less effective immune response. Administer vaccines immediately after mixed. Don't use unregistered vaccines. Make sure it gets administered correctly by a well trained professional.
โ
4. Stress releases cortisol that in turn suppresses the immunity. Sudden changes to daily routine, herd dynamics and diet increases the risk of causing unnessasary stress.
โ
5. Usage of not well researched products can lead to increased risk of exposure. For eg Citronella oil has recently been proved to attract biting insects instead of repelling them. Rather use registered DEET containing pr

This is a better video clip than the previous one showing clearly how lucky i was for the Leopard not crushing through the fence when he charged me , which he duly did a couple of meters further on , fortunately in a different direction!!
Wild Africa on the East Rand
A wild fully gown male leopard got cornered by farm dogs in between the farm buildings about 7 km from Bapsfontein on the Kaalfontein road about 20km from OR Tambo airport
I was called by the farmer as this was a potential disastrous situation unfolding
The darting was a high risk procedure ......
The fence was old and rusted and I had to go right up to it for a clear shot
The leopard charged instantly when the dart hit him and i tried my best to stand my ground
The speed the animal moves is frighteningly fast and was onto me within a second
Although i had a wing man with a rifle i was saved by the old fence and God's Grace
The leopard charged the fence a second time and this time succesfully broke through fortunately at another spot and direction
I am glad to be alive to tell the tale
Orthopedic wire placed to strengthen pin
He should make an uneventful recovery........
