Guppies are colorful, peaceful, and easy-to-care-for fish, making them a great choice for beginners. Here's a detailed care guide for guppies:

*Housing:*

- Minimum tank size: 5 gallons (19 liters)
- Tank shape: Long and wide, with a secure lid (guppies can jump)
- Substrate: Gravel or sand, with plants and decorations for hiding and exploration
- Water temperature: 72-82°F (22-28°C), with a temperature range of 1-2°F (0.5-1°C) per day
- Water pH: 6.8-7.8, slightly acidic to neutral
- Water hardness: Soft to medium-hard

*Water Care:*

- Regular water changes (10-20% every week)
- Use a gravel vacuum to remove debris and waste
- Monitor water parameters (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH)
- Use a water conditioner to remove chlorine and chloramines

*Diet and Feeding:*

- Feed high-quality commercial flake or pellet food
- Supplement with live or frozen foods (brine shrimp, bloodworms, daphnia)
- Feed 2-3 times a day, only as much as they can consume within 1-2 minutes
- Avoid overfeeding, which can lead to digestive issues and poor water quality

*Health and Maintenance:*

- Monitor for signs of disease or stress (labored breathing, lethargy, loss of appetite)
- Quarantine new fish before introducing them to the main tank
- Perform regular tank cleaning and maintenance
- Trim plants and replace old or dying ones

*Tank Mates:*

- Choose peaceful, small fish (neon tetras, harlequin rasboras, corydoras catfish)
- Avoid fin-nipping fish ( tiger barbs, serape tetras)
- Avoid large or aggressive fish that may see guppies as food

*Breeding and Propagation:*

- Guppies are livebearers, giving birth to live young
- Separate males and females if you don't want them to breed
- Provide a breeding tank with a sponge filter and plenty of hiding places
- Feed breeding females a diet rich in protein and nutrients

Remember to do plenty of research and consult with experienced aquarists if you have any questions or concerns. With proper care, guppies can thrive and bring joy and beauty to your aquarium!
