‼️‼️CANINE PARVOVIRUS ALERT!!!!‼️‼️

There is currently an outbreak of the parvovirus in Gauteng and other areas across the country.

This virus is severe and extremely serious. It is not necessary for a dog to be in direct contact with an infected animal because the virus can survive in the environment for a considerable amount of time.

Parvo is a dreadful illness that can be fatal. Immediate medical treatment is necessary but even that does not guarantee that the dog will survive.

Symptoms can include bloody diarrhoea (although not always bloody), vomiting, anorexia, temperature fluctuation and lethargy. Dogs may exhibit all or some of these symptoms. If you suspect that your dog has contracted the parvovirus seek immediate medical treatment.

Dogs that are vaccinated stand a better chance of survival and a reduction in the severity of symptoms. The prognosis for unvaccinated dogs that become infected, especially puppies, is very poor and most often result in death.

Treatment for dogs with parvovirus can cost anything from R7000 to R10000, or even more, with no guarantee that the dog will survive.
