Some beautiful pics of one of my current barefoot trimming horses. 🐴

This lovely boy battled to go without shoes many years ago when it was attempted.

These pics show that it’s never to late👐🏼

At a very ripe age and being a working jumping horse he has successfully gone barefoot in a short amount of time after being shod for many years.

A must attend workshop.

Equine triangular therapy hosted by Zirkia Fourie on the 15th and 16th of January at the Earth Centre.
Zirkia works very successfully with horses, humans and dogs and many other animals and has done so for many years.

On this workshop we will learn soft tissue moves working on muscle, ligaments, tendons, fascia and the nervous system to bring the body back to its ideal state of homeostasis helping in aiding the healing and improvement of the Equine body. An alternative way to spotting lamenesses and treating them as well as where to look for the ‘problem’
This workshop offers you a skill that very few have and is a mind blowing technique to have in any horse professional or owners tool box.

Class starts at 9:30am and finishes at 4:30pm each day.
Price:R3300, manual included.
RSVP: 11January 2022
To book your spot contact:
Zirkia: +27 (83) 556-3345

We look forward to seeing you there and sharing this mind blowing technique with you.

Wish you a Happy new year. May it be filled with joy and fun and may your heart be filled with love.

3Day Equine Studies Whole Horse Dissection done and dusted.

No pics to post… yet I’m afraid. But I can share some things that stood out for me. Obviously there is a LOT. But I’ll keep it to x3 may points

1: My take away was that “you can have the same problem in 10 different horses but each horse will present and compensate in a different way”

2: there are some anatomical structures that are uniquely different for each horse and as such not each one horse is the same in its anatomical make up.

3: the nuchal ligament attachments on C1-7 as shows in most All our anatomy books are incorrect for where the horse is at now!
Why? Not because it was drawn incorrectly many many years ago, but because our domentic horse now does not have the attachments on cervical vertebra C6and C7 any longer. This is terrifying Because the job of the nuchal ligament to the vertebra is to support the very heavy leaver of the head and neck. During movement the front and back part make up the biggest contribution to elastic stored energy.
Something to think of… the very very old purebreeds in the Netherlands still have this as well as donkeys and zebra. So what happened with our domestic horses??

This absolutely gorgeous unicorn🦄 had the most beautiful mental and physical releases in his session today.
He was blocked in the poll, base of neck, wither and pelvic area.

The fascia restriction of his gelding scar was was causing him hind quarter restrictions. Released it deep towards the sacrum for him.
At first he was a little unsure of what was happening 😂can we blame him, but then the releases just poured out in lots and lots if yawns.

He even tested out his neck into his shoulder area with the most beautiful stretch on both sides 🤣

Stood watching this for ages. It's the greatest gift back from the horse.

I'm affraid I was to mesmerized by all the yawns in that moment to even think of taking a video. 🙈

Finding the correct spot on the pectoral muscles on this mare aided her in releasing deep tension within her fascia lines leading to her scratching her tail end 🦄 on the fence and doing some of her own fascia release all whilst simply working very gently on her pecs.
This shows us how the entire horse ism connected back to front 🤗

This little video is the result immediately after indicating that she's had enough work done on her pectorals.

How awesome that she allowed me to work so deeply on her second session and letting go of all her bracing. Because of that she is now perfectly sound and ready for her endurance ride 🐎

All this by purely being present and listening to what is needed. 🌈

Why do we take fotos at the beginning of any new horses that will receive hoofcare from us...?
Well it's quite simple, we forget what the horses feet use to look like. And the feet are bound to change.
Let's face it we can't think that we will remember months down the line right...
So photos are the best thing we have. They have come in really handy lately being able to look back at some pics of some horses even just some months between start date and current date. They show improvement so nicely.

PS:These are just random shots.
Watch this space though, I'll be posting some before and afters 🐴

Any guess??

Yes, you've got it!! THE JAW!

While the jaw can inhibit muscles when shifted out of alignment, it can also step in to compensate for any missing link in movement.
If any muscle fails in a motor control movement, the brain can call for the jaw muscles to compensate.

The jaw compensates for everything from pelvic floor dysfunction to abdominal stability, hip stability (weak glutes), deep neck muscles....

Little experiment: observe someone trying to open a tight jar, lift a heavy weight or get stressed and hold their breath.
What do they do?

You will notice them clench, shift, and move the jaw in attempts to gain stability.

Just some casual hind quarter relaxation between trimming each hoof😜.

For our Equine's to stand in farrier stance it could be imagined as holding a yoga pose. The body has to work and they have to balance on 3 lims right 🤪
I find the horses to appreciate the time taken to rest. Gives them a well deserved break from farrier stance and to shift their bodies as they wish.
I've often tought that in this time they feel out there newly balanced hooves. 👐

What does hoof wall seperation look like?

Here is a basic but clear indication of hoof wall seperation.

Even though this is only one of the seperations we see it is a nice, visual, example to understand what it actually is.

The basics are that the hoof wall (the unpigmented inner wall) seperates from the white line(the junction where the wall meets the sole and is the externally visible part of the laminia. The unthinkable strong, velcro like, connective tissue that attach the hoof wall to P3) often by means of a bacterial and or fungal infection that gets into the less dense inner zone of the stratum medium eating away the wall meterial causing weakening and seperation of the hoof. (Picture 1)

Seperation would have been caused by White line desease and typically it looks like soft, chalky meterial and or black matter or dirt from the area that sits in a gap or groove close to the sole/wall junction almost sealing the bacteria/fungus in creating a ideal 'breading' grownd for them. (Picture 2)

Hoof hygiene is important as the infection is anaerobic thriving in enclosed spaces, areas packed with dirt.

What can could cause this:
Dietry issues
Imbalanced hooves
Environment

Why is this important:
It can cause Lameness, it weakens the laminar attachment, can lead to Laminitis and permenant damage in extreme cases.

Dealing with seperation is generally not only one quick fix but possibly a series of treatments and changes that may need to take place.

A quick share of a before and after from two bodywork sessions done for one horse.🐴

This structural compensation is true for more Equine's than what we realize.

This horsie was very tight in the Glutes, lumbar and back area. The Psoas was pulled tight and forcing her to compensate in her neck and thorax region, that cleared up after the first session. Upon her second session I could work a lot deeper into the muclse tissue and get to the true fascia pulls.
This compensation patters has likely been developed over some time but we can see how the body responds to better 'carry' itself once released. Her back has lifted because of the release in the hind quarters.
However, there are many aspects that play a role in such a compensation result, but, as a start, to keep these results over a longer period of time this girl will benifit form moving biomachanically correctly as well as strengthening though the top line and thorax.
