TAWI - a focus group based in Coffee Bay looking to extend the work of TAWI and organise vet care for the dogs of Coffee Bay, and to educate and facilitate medication to the surrounding villages. TAWI - Coffee Bay will be organising various fundraising events, locally and also overseas. Should you wish to donate at any time towards meds, food, education, you can do this via the official website an
d charity account. Over the last 4 years TAWI have been operating a PAHC (Primary Animal Health Care) service to 10 communities in the Port St Johns area, Eastern Cape, South Afrcia, primarily for domestic dogs. It has become increasingly evident that there is a considerable need and desire for PAHC services in other communities as we are being continuously approached to operate in other villages. It is more especially necessary since NZD’s (Neglected Zoonotic Diseases -transferred from animal to man) are having an adverse effect on health in rural communities (affecting 1 billion people worldwide. Ref: World Health Organisation) yet there are no protocols presently adopted by the relevant Govt Health Departments. TAWI therefore wish to both expand and become a self sustaining NGO in order to garner, supplement and compliment Govt & Municipal Health related Services in working towards filling this gap by combating disease’s most common in Rural Pastoral Areas of the Eastern Cape., most especially in the O.R. Since dogs are the most numerous carnivorous, breed easily and have little or no monetary value, they become easily neglected and, hence, undernourished. They then carry more NZD’s. Their numbers and health presently pose an increased health burden on people and communities, especially young children yet there are cost effective solutions. During this time a strategy, particularly suited to indigent rural villages has evolved and proved both successful and acceptable
The Project will train and employ an increasing number of local people (young women and men) as AWA (Animal Welfare Assistants) Field Workers providing basic medication, knowledge and support to Rural Villages in assisting them to manage, improve and control their dog populations. PLEASE DONATE TO:
