For a while now we have been thinking, planning and hoping to get a Leopard tortoise relocation project off the ground.
We firmly believe that even these creatures should return to the wild.
It's complicated, especially not knowing where they come from originally.
Knowing about FreeMe Wildlife and the incredible project that they run, we decided to make contact.
Without hesitation the team at FreeMe Wildlife has put us on the right track going forward.
Thank you for what you do and for assisting us with such a special cause.
Dr Marthinus has agreed to be part of this project, thankfully.
SANBI will be running DNA test amongst others for origin and health.
Cape Nature plays a vital role for all permissions needed.
We are truly excited now that all stakeholders are onboard and the idea that these special creatures could be free once more.
The program is intense and time consuming, but every day is a day closer to freedom.
Please don't pick up any tortoise and move them out of an area endemic to them.
In wetter regions, especially Cape town and surrounds, can cause many health complications including lung issues.
Most kept tortoises also doesn't get the right nutrition and living conditions.
Tortoises ain't pets.
It's illigal to keep and transport these creatures.
If you get caught, strong penalties will apply.
Do the right thing and let wild creatures stay in the wild where they belong.
