It all started as a dream to live off the land.... Then we found this piece of property along the Boven Lange Valley outside Wilderness in the Western Cape back in 2016.

I have been awfully quiet this past couple of weeks. A lot has happened in our lives since the beginning of 2023! Our heads are literally spinning.

We bought a farm in the Overberg in Tesselaarsdal. Jip, we did.

And, this beautiful piece of paradise (The Tin Shed), is having new owners that will take things even further than we did!

We loved being creative on this space. We learned a lot! We allowed nature to teach us many things. What to do. And what not to do.

Thank you to everyone who have been following our journey. It was wonderful to share it with you. And hopefully we meant something to somebody out there. 🌱

This plant has been growing in it's pot for a few years now. It has never flowered! And look at it now. 😃

TUESDAY UPDATE:

Our new carport is up and needed some covering on the ground. We decided to use peach pips, as these will definitely take much longer to decompose than woodchips.

I love the calming effect the colour of the pips create!

The carport is not only a covering for vehicles. It's roof will give extra space to capture water and maybe add an extra solar panel or two (we are totally off the grid). And... now we don't have the scorching morning sun shining on the eastern side of the Shed during Summer anymore. We can feel the difference in temperature inside!

Today was hard labour day, but I'm glad that what is done is DONE! 👏

My beautiful dahlias on this rainy afternoon. 🌸

I'm sure they are as grateful as we are for the rain after the terrible dry and hot season we've had so far.

These two varieties are low growing - only about 60cm tall. This suits me as we often have a nasty wind blowing in our area.

I'm absolutely in love with my Totally Tangerine and Créme de Cognac dahlias!

I have been playing around in the garden. I am no landscaper, but at least I also get to create something beautiful. Well it is beautiful to me. And that's what counts. 🌸

I had to harvest these to make space for the others to grow bigger.

Carrots are one of the easiest veggies to grow, as far as I'm concerned. 🥕

Our little "birdies" having a late afternoon family meeting.

The order they are sitting in (from left to right), is their exact pecking order. Oliver the rooster on the left. Then Amera next to him. She must be the leader hen. Then Pepper next to Amera. These two girls always come up against each other for first place.

Then it is Dot. Not highest in pecking order, but definitely the quickest to catch a worm.

Next to Dot we see Essie the other rooster. And I think he will always have a soft spot for little Sophie next to him.

4 Weeks old today! They have grown so quickly!

Every morning they get a fresh snack from the garden. They especially love picking off the little blue borage flowers!

In this bunch: swiss chard, lemon balm, borage, wild grass and comfrey. 🌱

So this happened today. 🐥🐣 Transported all the way from Livingseeds in Meyerton.

Mother Hen must now use all her instincts to raise these babies. 😀
They were all born 2 days ago (Tuesday, 20/9/22).

Today I don't have a lot of pictures. Things on the plot look more or less the same as last week. 😊

But, I still have something to share: My very first cornflower. Peony poppies almost open. Oh yess and the carnation...

These are my purple carrot setting seeds. How beautiful! Yellow carrots' flowers are white. Purple carrots' flowers are.... PURPLE! Nature is so amazing! 🌱 If you want to save seeds from your carrots, don't pull them but let them grow. They will set seeds in their second year of growing.
