Today I would like to educate and hypothetically bringing to the society on a very typical subject of a disease called Canine parvoenteritis virus
Canine parvoenteritis virus/canine parvovirus as it is known, is a virus that affect puppies less than one year of age , with no history of vaccination.
Of recent it's occurred to me as a vet practitioner, that in the last months ( august - September) we've experienced a high number of rising cases of the canine parvoenteritis virus, and I think it's also cliché if we don't educate the public the importance of vaccination
Alert: will talk slightly on the vaccination schedule for canine's to create an awareness for the public
Puppies vaccination starts at 1 month of age which is equivalent to 4 weeks , the next dose should be done normally after a month but due to the disease prevalence I would advise it's done at a 3 week interval, to reduce on the number of cases vets have per day..
Canine parvoenteritis virus
Is a virus that affect canine puppies , is a very deadly and contagious diseases . I'll briefly talk about it's pathogenesis
The virus is ingested orally through contact with any infected fomite or canine dropping, once in the stomach the virus replicate through invading the rapid cell generator organs ( spleen, liver, small intestine, bone marrow etc ) by eating up the intestinal lining, exposing the intestinal blood vessels, which leads to viable blood seen in the stool
Clinical signs include: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea which later turn to bloody diarrhea with a foul smell , dehydration , isolation , loss of appetite , tachycardia and so on
Immediately you notice such signs and you know that your puppy isn't vaccinated, do not hesitate to visit or call your vet ... for an early diagnosis
