Be a responsible dog owner. Responsible dog ownership should cover the following points;

1. Do you have the capacity to raise a dog. Capacity must be seen from the perspective of 3 parameters namely-

a) Financial capacity - ability to provide a conducive environment where the dog will be kenneled. In addition to space is the ability to provide adequate dog food at each and every stage of the dog’s development.

b) Time and attention - ability to provide the necessary time and attention given to a dog to enable it exercise regularly through dog walks and dog play.

c) Vet care service - ability to grant the dog access to Vet care service. This should range from periodic vaccinations of dogs, deworming of dogs, general treatment as well as dog grooming.

2. Deciding on what type of dog breed you want to keep. There are generally 3 types dog sizes and each size has different breeds. There are small sized dog breeds, medium sized dog breeds and large size dog breeds. Each category requires unique needs in raising the dog

3. Deciding the right breeder for the choice of your breed. Make sure you identify breeders with utmost consideration to ethical breeding of dogs. For Boerboels you can get in touch with us and we will link you to a list of our reputable registered Boerboel breeders among our membership

4. Provide basic obedience training to your dog. As you train the dog make sure to reward it for good behavior and when this is done repeatedly, the dog’s subconscious will be well conditioned

5. Socializing the dog - regardless of whether the dog is for security or not take time to socialize the dog with members of your household and do this very often. You can start this from the time you are teaching the dog obedience. Do it with members of your family or household participating. Additionally, walk and play with the dog as often as you can.

6. Fencing - If your household is full of visitors kindly make sure you put up a fence within your yard where the dog will be kept to avoid contact with strangers when they visit. Do NOT ever chain your dog to a pole or any attachment as this is barbaric and cruel to a dog. Only use a leash on a dog when you walking with it
