We've been asked to put this together by Dubai Cats group as a polite reminder and with regards to the Law pertaining to Animal Abandoment.

Firstly, the Animal Abandoment Law which was amended last year to carry a stiffer penalty of up to 200,000 AED and/or up to 1 year in prison.

The latter used for extreme circumstances.

This is a Federal Law, and in order to secure certain convictions to those that abuse the Law, there are certain steps individuals must take in order to protect and collate evidence in a formal manner.

Remember, everyone is not guilty of any crime unless proven otherwise, and more so here in the UAE.

Therefore, as a polite reminder, do not post anything relating to any crime on Social Media with regards to the Law having been broken, even after securing a conviction you may not be allowed to do so.

Taken photographs and videos especially where people are being photographed and videoed without their permission is against the Law,

unless, a crime or you suspect a crime is either being committed or about to take place.

Therefore, even at this point, try to refrain from taking images or video of the person direct, but observe and note surveillance cameras in the area, take vehicle registration numbers and note description of anything that may aid authorities to carry out an investigation in order help them solve the crime and secure a conviction.

If you are concerned, report to the Police immediately.

Therefore, like any crime, Animal Abandoment is a crime, but in order to secure any conviction, you need concrete evidence that the animal was indeed abandoned and had not just escaped from its owner, as an example.

A good example, is actually catching on surveillance camera a person dumping animals in a garbage bin etc and physically being present while the person conducted this crime. At this point, you can report to the Police immediately observing any details that may help secure a conviction successfully and used as evidence in an official statement format.

Any Police statement made, you should obtain a copy in both Arabic and English from the Police at the time of making a statement (do not leave the Police Station or scene of the crime without a copy 😁).

Common sense applies, but stay within both Social Media and Media Laws set here in the UAE, to offer the best chance of a conviction.

Please note this is not official advice and the circumstances dictate on how an individual acts when/during or after a crime has taken place, any unjust actions may jeopardize any such case.

Special announcement

With the recent announcement and publication of DMT’s (Abu Dhabi) Mediation and Feeding guidelines for Stray Animals (Community Care Animals), we have been invited to work closely with a group of caring individuals in order Stabilize and Sustain a colony of Community Care Animals across the mountains situated in Al Ain.

These group of individuals have already achieved a remarkable feat by supplying feeding stations and shelter boxes to the areas that are needed to keep the animals sustained and to try to keep them warm during the bitter cold evenings.

The Summit of Love project is such a wonderful and meaningful initiative! It’s incredible to see a community come together to help care for these animals in such a comprehensive and sustainable way.

The effort to replace the wooden feeding stations and shelters with more durable materials is ongoing and will definitely make a lasting difference, and the Trap Neuter Return (TNR) process is so important for maintaining the balance in the population and afford the animals their 5 freedoms as recognised to international best practice.

As this is a large and ongoing project, I’m sure there will be plenty of opportunities for people to lend a hand. How can those interested in volunteering or contributing get involved?

After weeks of trying, the girls have caught the last 3 remaining puppies from a not so nice place.

They will now be taken to Pet Pavilion UAE for de-ticking and health check supported by Animal Action.

We have just rescued this little girl from around the Marina at ADNEC, Abu Dhabi, possible eye surgery required. Anyone missing a Scottish Fold? More details to follow.

Poseidon, the cat left to suffocate in a bag in a trash can with a horrendous wound to his rear, is now back on his feet. You would not guess he had over 70 stitches. He has now had his first vaccination and dewormed too. He is such a pleasant boy.

Surrendered and off to Falcon... not any more thanks to The Mussafah Dog Project they are coming to us. These little balls of fur will be attending our adoption day. They are currently in the vet conducting necessary checks including PCR. We will isolate for 14 days prior to first vaccinations. The adults are being spayed and neutered as we speak. We are overwhelmed, but no way was this family being surrendered. Thank you MDP, we know you are also overwhelmed and hitting brick walls, but you are doing a great job under the circumstances. Thanks to Pet Pavilion UAE too for treating the little ones.
