Nico’s Story 😻
What a difference two months and an innovative, never seen before neurosurgical procedure can make👌😻!!
Meet little kitten Nico 🤗.
Sadly Nico came to GVC with degenerative issues including loss of balance, impaired mobility, and troubling incoordination 😿.
Prior to coming to GVC, no one had been able to diagnose any underlying condition, and Nico’s quality of life was rapidly declining 😿😔.
However, when Dr Sergio examined Nico he immediately recognized the seriousness of his symptoms and, through the use of diagnostic technology including X-rays and an MRI, Dr Sergio was able to identify a complex and uncommon condition: Atlanto-Axial instability, a misalignment in the joint between the first two vertebrae in Nico’s neck 😔.
This rare diagnosis presented a unique set of challenges—especially given Nico’s young age (20 weeks).
However, Dr Sergio knew that Nico needed help and that his diminishing quality of life was not sustainable….
So, Dr Sergio pushed the boundaries and adapted a surgical procedure carried out, until now, only on toy dog breeds 👌
And the results…. Are amazing 🤩!

Foreign body surgery alert 🔔 !!!
Every foreign body surgery has the potential to throw up (not literally) a surprise… after all, often you won’t know what you’ll find inside until it comes out 🫣.
With today’s kitty patient, the surprise was as much about the lack of physical symptoms as it was the object inside… the little guy was doing ok at home but just seemed a little “off” so his super-switched on purrents brought him in for investigations….
Plus, they knew he had a history of “pica” and were quick to associate his minor behaviour changes with his history of ingesting inedible stuff 😔.
The result… yes, you guessed it…. it’s part of a watch band 🤯!
And the patient, well he is doing great and looking forward to plenty of rest and recuperation, followed by a referral with Dr Katrin, the UAE’s only Board-Certified Veterinary Behaviour Specialist, to help understand the causes of, and find some strategies to prevent the repetition of the pica behaviour 👌.

Super-sweet Danjoor had been suffering with degenerative spinal stenosis 😔.
Three weeks ago Dr Sergio, one of a very small number of Veterinary Surgeons in the UAE with the necessary knowledge and skills, carried out a hemi-laminectomy spinal surgery 🙏❤️
And the result…, it is only three weeks later and Danjoor’s recovery is looking great 👌😻 🥳!
