Moonbean loves to eat. She will eat the entire day if she can. Her rescue parent, Kristle, came to visit. We at Dr. Well Veterinary and Moonbean are truly grateful that Kristle saved her life.

Moonbean Update. Moonbean is stable today. She is active and has started to walk. Eats a lot. Really a lot. Lol.
She ate well last night, and all her vitals are normal.
Today we changed the bandages, and she was so strong. We also had the opportunity to make her look like a lady again.
We know Moonbean has a long way to go for recovery, but she is a little fighter, and she does make things easy for the team at Dr. Well Veterinary.
Meet Ellie (Husky) and Oly (Golden Retriever). Thanks to Oliver Zoppi’s team that rescued them and taking such good care!!
These 2 young beautiful babies came to Dr Well Veterinary for their general health check.
We hope Ellie and Oly will be adopted soon.

Meet little Moonbean. She was rescued from the streets in a very bad condition, she is suffering from burns all over her body, severe hypothermia (35.6 degrees) and ear mites with all of this. She was dehydrated and starving for nutrition for days. The little baby has a microchip but unfortunately not registered.
Please, Please, Please parents register your pet with the Municipality. If your baby goes missing and someone find them, they can reach you.
Fortunately, a stranger found her and brought her to Dr Well Veterinary Clinic where she will be staying for a few days with a complete treatment plan to help her. Thank you, Kristle Quito, for saving her life. Kristle is taking care of Moonbean as if its her own cat and taking on all the responsibilities.
We gave her some fluids, cleaned her wounds, and started our treatment plan from our amazing doctors.
Bedtime she took all her medication – Yes, she knew she needed them and did not fight it. Temperature at 38.5.
It will be a long journey for her but she is strong and have the willingness to fight.
2nd day:
Moonbeen is doing better today, her appetite increased and her temperature was maintained on Normal. The daily hospital care is very important to get a quick improvement.
3rd day:
Moonbeen is now below critical level, she is improving very well, she is back to life. We can see there is a big change already.
More updates coming!!!!!! We have great news for day 4.
Dewormer for dogs and cats- why is it important to deworm them
A public health issue
Deworming dogs and cats is a public health issue. Dog or cat digestive parasites can indeed threaten human health. Studies show that at least 5% of individuals have been in contact with roundworms*.
Deworming gets dogs and cats rid of parasites that they harbour in their digestive tract. City or countryside pets, all are concerned.
How can my dog or cat catch worms?
Each parasite develops according to a particular cycle. In general, a dog or cat gets infected when consuming an animal itself parasitized (rodents, fleas, slugs…), or by swallowing the eggs of parasites that it has rejected in its stools.
What are the most common worms in dogs or cats?
Round worms
The most common are roundworms.
Puppies and kittens are generally infected with these parasites from birth. Roundworms live in the digestive tract where they lay eggs that are rejected in stool: these eggs can survive 2 years outdoors before being accidentally ingested by a dog or a cat (or a child) !
Flat worms
Tapeworms are flat worms that can reach up to 60cm long! The most common flatworm in dogs and cats is Dipylidium caninum. This parasite is transmitted by fleas.
Do worms put the health of my dog or cat in danger?
Roundworms can cause serious disorders in puppies and kittens: diarrhea, vomiting, intestinal obstruction, growth stunting… Symptoms are less apparent in adult animals, but a large parasitism always causes a decline in the general condition.
Did you know?
Fleas transmit internal parasites to dogs and cats. Deworming and flea treatment must therefore be tackled head-on.
The optimal frequency of treatment depends on the age and the parasite pressure that is exerted on your dog / cat. A quarterly treatment is usually recommended in adult pets, but your vet will give you the adapted deworming protocol for your pet.
Dr. Well Veterinary Team sends you warm wishes for a joyful, bright, healthy and "fuzzy" New Year.
Please remember to keep your furry family safe during all the festivities.
October is #BreastCancerArenessMonth. Breast cancer does not only develops in humans but also in dogs, cats and other mammals. This is Kate, she developed mammary cancer at the age of 10. After a complete check of her health status and a complete diagnosis, the mammary tumour was surgically removed and now kate is on her road to recovery.
Pet parents must understand and be ready to identify mammary tumours in their pets. Mammary tumours are among the most common tumours in the cat. The risk is even higher for female dogs than it is for women. Mammary tumours in female dogs account for 42% of all diagnosed tumours, with a lifetime risk of 23-34%. Compared to mammary tumours in women who have a 12.4% life risk.
Before any diagnostic or therapeutic steps are taken, the health status of the pet must be fully assessed. Bloodwork and urinalysis should be done to identify any presurgical abnormalities. Most affected pets are intact females; however, the disease is occasionally seen in spayed females and, rarely, in male pets. That’s because intact (un-spayed) female pets have fully-developed mammary tissue. A pet spayed prior to sexual maturity is at a reduced risk of mammary cancer because the spay removes the ovaries, which produce the estrogen that is significant to the full development of the mammary glands.

Our feline companions are considered overweight when they weigh 10-20% more than their ideal body weight, according to body weight. Obese cats are those who weigh 20% or more over their ideal body weight.
There are two recognized BCS scales used, one ranging from 1-5 and the other from 1-9. Some veterinarians prefer the 1-9 scale because it allows for more subtle weight changes. Others prefer the 1-5 scale because it has fewer categories. Whatever method you use, the scale should be identified by referring to the highest number. A cat with a BCS of 3 would, for example, have an ideal weight on the 5-point scale (3/5) and will be thin on the 9-point scale (3/9).

Obesity is an excess of adipose tissue in the body and is the most common nutritional disorder in companion animals.
Numerous studies have shown that obesity can have an adverse effect on the health and longevity of dogs and cats. Orthopedic disease, diabetes mellitus, abnormalities in circulating lipid profiles, cardiorespiratory disease, urinary disorders, reproductive disorders, neoplasia (mammary tumors, transitional cell carcinoma), dermatological diseases, and anesthetic complications are all problems that obese cats and dogs may be predisposed to. Dietary therapy is the foundation of weight management in dogs and cats, but increasing exercise and behavioral management are also helpful. There is an urgent need to raise awareness of companion animal obesity as a serious medical issue.
How can you tell if your pet’s weight is appropriate? Your veterinarian can assess your pet’s weight and overall health and make recommendations on diet and exercise for your pet.

On this pet obesity awareness day, let's not forget to keep our pets healthy. When our pets start getting a little plump from eating leftovers or lack of movement, you know it's time for some activities. Let's add more walks to the daily routine, fewer table scraps and perhaps even an additional vet visit to ensure they're still healthy.
