🎓We celebrated chemo graduation this week!

Karma has a multicentric lymphoma and has been coming every week for chemotherapy appointments for the past 20 weeks and now she has officially completed the protocol 😍.

Karma is one of our most beloved patients. Not only is she a very compliant patient but she is always ready to cheer our staff with her non stop wagging tail 🐶.

While we will miss our weekly appointments with Karma we are so happy to say that she is now in full remission and will continue her follow ups in a less frequent basis.

Cheers to her brave owners who have fought for her and can now celebrate this achievement!

Our Veterinary Oncologist, Dr Beatriz examining slides of Mast Cell Tumors 🔬.

Mast Cell Tumors are one of the most common skin tumors in dogs. Normal mast cells are filled with granules that contain histamine and are linked to processes that cause quick inflammation and redness like allergies and insect bites. Mast cell tumor (MCT) usually presents as a solitary mass that can often be round, pink and alopecic.

Diagnostics are performed with a fine needle aspiration, a simple diagnostic, and it can help to determine if it is a low grade MCT or a high grade MCT. This information is key to determine next steps and prognosis of the patients.

Interesting fact: some owners describe masses that change in colour and size through time. This is very common in mast cell tumors because of the histamine release, so these owners might actually be right. It’s not magic it’s science! 🧫

In some emergency situations a blood transfusion can save lives, however often it can be hard to find a blood donor.

You can help by donating blood to the blood bank if your pet is healthy and young. Cats should be over 6kg and dogs over 20kg.
