Leaving pets in a car can be dangerous, even for a short period. Here are some essential tips to keep in mind if you must leave your pet in a vehicle:

1. Avoid Hot or Cold Weather
Never Leave Pets in a Hot Car: Even with windows cracked, the temperature inside a car can rise rapidly, leading to heatstroke or even death. In as little as 10 minutes, a car can become dangerously hot.
Be Cautious in Cold Weather: Cars can also become too cold in winter, which can be dangerous, especially for small or short-haired pets.

2. Park in the Shade
Find Shade: Always park in a shaded area to help keep the car cooler.
Use Sunshades: Use reflective sunshades on windows to block out some heat.

3. Provide Ventilation
Crack the Windows: Crack the windows slightly to allow fresh air to circulate, but remember this alone is not enough to keep the car cool on hot days.
Ventilation Fans: Portable battery-operated fans can help circulate air, but they are not a substitute for proper cooling.

4. Leave Water
Provide Water: Leave a bowl of water in the car, preferably one that won’t easily tip over. There are specialized water dispensers designed for travel that can be useful.

5. Monitor the Temperature
Temperature Alerts: Consider using a temperature monitor that alerts you if the car’s interior reaches a dangerous level.
Check Frequently: If you're running errands, check on your pet frequently to ensure they're safe.

6. Know the Signs of Heatstroke
Watch for Symptoms: Signs of heatstroke in pets include excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, and collapse. If you notice any of these signs, seek veterinary care immediately.

At this week's FIDI (the global alliance of quality-certified international moving and relocation companies) conference in Edinburgh, our CEO, Curt Clements, was invited to share his expertise on how Move One navigates crises within the global moving and relocation industry. With his deep understanding of the complexities involved in moving and relocating to, from, through, or around countries facing embargoes, closed borders, and other challenges, Curt provided invaluable insights. The panel explored the immediate responses and long-term strategies necessary for adapting to such circumstances, highlighting Move One's unique perspective, planning processes, communication and experience.

Utah couple accidentally shipped their cat, Galena, in an Amazon return box. Six days later, an alert Amazon worker found her safe in California, nestled among steel-toed boots! 📦😺
🚨 While rare, this story highlights why it's crucial to keep a close watch on your pets especially during during moves. Cats especially will climb into big shipping crates or furniture being shipped.
To avoid such scares:
1️⃣ Consider boarding pets or keeping them in a secure area on moving day.
2️⃣ Keep them away from packing materials, which can be dangerous if ingested.

But do you really want to?

There’s a common myth that you can use your pets to reduce your U.S. taxes. 🐾📑 Pets are beloved family members but they are not dependents according to the IRS!
Here’s what you need to know:
Personal Pets: Expenses for personal pets are generally not deductible. The IRS does not allow pet-related expenses as tax deductions on your personal tax returns. Claiming such expenses could raise red flags and potentially trigger an audit.
Service Animals: The exception is for qualified service animals. Expenses related to the purchase, training, and maintenance of service animals are deductible under medical expenses if they assist a person with disabilities.
Working Animals: If you use animals for legitimate business purposes, like a guard dog for a business property or a cat in a pest-control business, some expenses may be deductible.

More than half of cats around the first Texas dairy farm to test positive for bird flu this spring died after drinking raw milk from the infected cows, scientists reported this week, offering a window into a toll the virus has taken during its unprecedented spread through the cattle industry.
While the spread of the virus from cows to cats through raw milk is new, cats have long been known to scientists as one of the species especially vulnerable to severe disease from H5N1.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture has said that deaths and neurological disease in cats have been "widely reported" around farms with outbreaks of the virus.

🐾✈️ Could this crate cause your pet to be quarantined ?

Did you know most countries now mandate that all wooden crates, used for transporting animals, must adhere to the ISPM 15 standard? This requires the wood to undergo heat or chemical treatment to prevent pest infestations. Why is this important? In many countries like Ethiopia, facilities to treat wood to these standards are scarce (or do not exist). This often leads to the use of untreated wood or counterfeit compliance stamps. ⛔️If this happens, you might be held responsible for any resulting charges, and your pet could be quarantined or returned to its country of origin.

Your responsibility ? Even if you employ a shipping company, it remains your duty to ensure every piece of wood in your pet’s crate (excluding plywood or pressboard) has a valid ISPM 15 stamp. Look for the "wheat symbol" on the wood; additional markings may vary by country.

Rabies kills ! 💉⛑️

The World is not flat, chocolate milk does not come from brown cows (7% of American adults -over 17 million believe this) and a grown number of pet owners think the rabies vaccine causes autism symptoms in dogs.
Hesitancy around vaccines has spilled over to pet owners in recent years, sparking concern about the resurgence of rabies, a virus that's nearly always fatal. Some pet owners argue against vaccinating dogs – over concerns that vaccines shorten the canines' lifespans or beliefs that vaccines can cause autism in dogs. Please follow the science !

🦁Remembering Marjan the one eyed Afghan Lion 🇦🇫whose troubled life mirrored the turbulent Afghan history.

Marjan, the blind lion known for his incredible resilience in the midst of a war-torn Kabul, made his home at the Kabul Zoo from 1978 until his passing in 2002.
Dubbed the Lion of Kabul, Marjan's tale is one of survival against the odds. He lived through decades of conflict, including wars, sieges, invasions, and a harrowing gr***de attack that ultimately led to his death from old age on January 26, 2002. Gifted by Germany , Marjan's life was as troubled and violent as that of the Afghan people during this time .
His most challenging ordeal came in the 1990s when an Afghan guerrilla, in a reckless act of bravado, invaded Marjan's den and was killed. The following day, seeking revenge, the guerrilla's brother attacked Marjan with a gr***de, leaving him gravely injured. The explosion cost Marjan his sight in one eye, damaged his hearing, and took a part of his mouth. Despite efforts by MSF and International Doctors who removed an eye and some teeth to halt an infection, they were unable to extract a gr***de shard embedded in his skull.
In late 2001, as Move One opened our offices our pet transport group began raising money to support Marjan and the remaining animals at the zoo after the Taliban's retreat. Despite their best intentions and efforts, this support arrived too late for Marjan. His memory lives on, with a statue at the Kabul zoo.
