More than 7 years ago, we brought a little buddy home who was scared, nervous, silent, and unsure of who these new humans were. It wasn't much longer after that, both he and us knew that we were made for each other. He was ours and we were his completely. In more ways than we can ever explain or anyone could ever understand, we loved Tango and he loved us.
He was our shadow from the first day. Following us everywhere we went from room to room to bathroom. It was impossible for him to let us out of his sight and for us to leave him at home whenever we had to step out of the house. When we came back, he was right at the foot of the door, not having moved for hours, waiting for us to return. Coming back home to him and witnessing his excitement was one of the most fulfilling feelings in life, something we will probably not experience ever again.
Anyone who knew him knew his insatiable love for food. He had the cutest big eyes in the world, and he knew that and used them to his advantage to manipulate us and everyone else he met. A face that would melt hearts combined with a never-give-up attitude made sure everybody who interacted with him was obligated to give him something to eat. He literally chased people down for food, grabbed whatever he could find on his walks, bullied kids into dropping their snacks, and was constantly found on table tops chomping off unattended food. His number one agenda in life was to stuff his tummy as if the world was going to end.
He was way smarter than an average dog, he would devise elaborate plans in order to get treats - whether it was finding a visitor's shoe to barter for treats or manipulating you into giving him a cuddle and then expecting treats in return. He could smell McDonalds from a mile. He would bark and remind us when it was time to eat not just his own lunch and dinner but also ours because when we ate, he ate again!
Tango loved his toys. His funniest habit was to run and pick a toy to take along for his walks with us and parade it for everyone to see. He always knew when there was a present for him and loved the anticipation of opening new gifts. The feeling of giving him a new toy made our hearts fill up with so much love and joy, it cannot be explained.
Tango wasn't your typical cuddly or lovey dovey dog. He was his own self. He had a personality that was unique beyond measure. He would test everyone who came home but anyone who spent time with him inevitably fell in love with him. It was a mysterious charisma, something that we never understood. He made it impossible not to love him.
Tango was not just our dog. He was our heart & soul, our shadow, the center of our universe, our first baby, our playmate, our comfort, the inspiration for our business endeavors, our best friend and forever companion in the good and bad times and so so much more. He was our home.
No words can describe our love for you Tango, but know that every now and then we will be dropping some food off the table so you can get some, leaving the bathroom door open so you can follow us in and leaving some space on the bed so you can snuggle with us.
Thank you for coming into our lives and changing them in ways we couldn't have imagined. You left us with a lifetime of memories and we are so lucky you chose us to be your humans!
You left us because of a heart that was far too big for this world! But your heart is just the right size for where you are now. We hope we will be together in every life of yours and ours! No matter what, you wait for us and we will find you on the other side and nobody will ever stop us from eating, playing, snoozing, and loving each other ever again. Until then, breathe free and enjoy all the belly rubs, squeaky toys and the best treatos up there.
See you soon!
Your forever humans,
Rahul & Priya
