Drive-Through Eye Exam 🐎

We were delighted to meet Gem, the gorgeous pony, who visited our clinic for an eye examination.

Dr. Gavin performed her eye check from the comfort of her float, so she could relax and continue enjoying her snacks. Now that's service!

The holiday season is a popular time to get a new puppy, so we’ve created a handy blog to guide you during this time.

It provides guidance on selecting a puppy, preparing your home, and settling them in when they arrive.

It even includes a printable checklist for the essential supplies you’ll need πŸ“

2024 has been all about surprises... and we have one more! πŸŽ‰

Paws at Prospect Vet meets Adelaide Veterinary Walk-In Clinic 🀝

We have joined forces with a brand new and independently owned business that will be using our building and facilities after-hours!
Starting in late November, we will be two separate businesses operating out of the same location at different times.

Paws at Prospect Vet will operate as our normal GP and Eye Referral business during the day. Adelaide Veterinary Walk-In Clinic will then take over when we close πŸŒžπŸŒ™

Adelaide Veterinary Walk-In Clinic is an urgent care provider for conditions that can't wait until the next day but aren’t emergencies. Examples include limping, pain, gastrointestinal upsets, coughing, wounds, and acute urinary issues.

They will offer consultations until midnight on weekdays and from 1:00pm to 6:00pm on weekends. No appointment is necessary.

We’re thrilled about this new partnership, which will provide additional and accessible services for our clients πŸ’™

Harvey - the dog that couldn't produce his own tears 🐢

Harvey had a condition that meant he couldn't produce his own tears, this caused his eyes to become dry, ulcerated and sore.

Usually, this can be managed with daily medication. However, Harvey's condition did not respond to the medication. You can see from the before photo that his eyes are dull, irritated and gunky.

Harvey's owner opted for Dr. Gavin Newman to perform a rare surgery, known as a 'Parotid Duct Transposition'.
This surgery relocates a saliva duct from the mouth to the eye pocket, which means the eye will be lubricated with saliva. The saliva stops the eye from drying out.

The most intriguing effect of this surgery is when they salivate excessively, it will also occur to the eye. This means they may appear to "cry" while eating.

Harvey was an absolute superstar and made a full recovery. His eyes are so much healthier and he is a happier boy πŸ’™

Thank you to Harvey's owner for allowing us to document and share his story.
