Today marks R U OK day for 2024.

This year we focus on asking R U OK ANY day.
While there is one day marked in the calendar to bring attention to this important topic, we are checking in with our team, our clients, our friends and family ANY day of the year.

If you feel like you need some support but do not know where to start, let someone in your community know. They do not have to have all the answers but knowing that you are not alone and that others around you care for you and your wellbeing can be a massive step in the right direction.

In the past 2 years the topic of mental health within the veterinary profession is becoming more common place to talk openly about.
We want to thank our amazing clients who check on us when they see a weary face, or a hard smile to hold. They let us know they see us and are here.

Our team at Pet Society Vet are so important to each other and to the care of your pets. That is why we know the importance of looking out for each other and giving each other support on the good days and the tough days.

Community is key
Starting the conversation can be all it takes.

A delayed WELCOME to Dr Lauren Eyre to Pet Society VEt.

Dr Lauren has been working at Pet Society Vet since late 2023 and has been a valued addition to our growing community.

Dr Lauren's clients trust her implicitly with the care of their fur kids.
Her compassion, care and knowledge shines through her interactions with the pets and their humans.

She is dedicated to the welfare of animals, of all shapes and sizes, and continues work within animal shelters of South Australia, making a difference to those in greatest need.

When she is not saving the shelter animals, she greatly enjoys the connection and community that is provided through a small animal clinic and client relationships.

Ask for Dr Lauren when booking your beloved pet in for their next check up or consultation.

Happy Mothers Day.

May we continue to come in all shapes and sizes.
May we continue to honour ourselves and the important roles we play in the lives of our families.

To all those missing their mother figures
To all those grieving the desire to be a mother.
To all the mums to fur kids and human kids alike.

We see you and you are special.

For something a little different... Dr Jess is joining some other amazing people to raise money for Cancer Council by donning a Marylin Monroe swim outfit and swimming the Marylin Jetty Swim at Brighton in a few weeks time.

The team are raising money for this good cause.
So if you feel like she should share some light hearted (and possibly very embarrassing) photos of the day OR you are wanting to help contribute to Cancer Council fundraising, follow the link here.

Thank you to everyone who is supporting this cause and our team.

There are 30 new cancer diagnoses in South Australia every day. That’s more than 11,000 South Australians every year. Your support will help me change this terrible statistic. Every dollar I raise through the Marilyn Jetty Swim will fund Cancer Council SA’s vital research, prevention programs an...

IT IS A HOT ONE OUT THERE!!!

This weekend we will be sharing our latest blog post on helping our friends in the summer heat. So make sure to check it out!

In the meantime, things you need to know NOW.

🌞Do NOT walk your dog on surfaces that are too hot for you to touch - they can get sever burns to their feet.

🌞 Only provide a light walk early in the morning or late in the evening IF it is cool enough.

🌞 Make sure they have plenty of cool fresh water easily accessible

🌞 Give them plent of cool shade, and better yet, keep them indoors in an airconditioned zone.

🌞 If you have a thick coated breed like a Chow, Malamute, Pomeranian, Border Collie or even a Golden Retriever - Make sure you pay extra attention to these steps. Even being in the shade outside on a day like today can be too much for them.

🌞 If you have a Brachycephalic dog like a French Bulldog, Pug, or Boston Terrier - they cannot cool their bodies down as well as other breeds due to the reduced nasal area.
Our dogs cool themselves by panting and these guys really struggle to get the air movement for this cooling through their nasal airways.

🌞 If you have a dog with heart disease or respiratory disease, they are at much higher risk and should be in an airconditioned space and be checked on regularly.

Call us if you need any other information OR if you are worried your pet is suffering heat stroke!!

OUR VET NURSES!!!

No one can argue our nurses are the backbone of what we do.
They are the soul and spirit for every patient we care for.
They put in their time, skills, expertise, compassion, dedication, focus, commitment, education, intelligence, nurture, their smiles, and their tears when caring for you and your pets.
I call them my friends and family. My confidants. The strength when I need more. The space and sounding board to work through challenges. The shoulder and ear behind the hard days and tough calls. The cheer squad to let me know when I am doing a good job (because we all need that sometimes). To laugh with and enjoy our work. To commiserate the hard times and celebrate the good times.

Without the vet nurses in our lives, we would be at a loss and the work we do in providing the quality veterinary care none of these things would be able to happen.

Being part of this community also means acknowledging each other for the roles we play.
Let’s come together to boast and share some of the wonderful things our nurses have provided to our community.

COMMENT BELOW with messages for our people.

What better day than World ANIMAL day!!

We are all about the animals.... And not just the pets.
The Pet Society Vet team understand that there are many animals, and species in this world that need help and support.

We do our part for the animals in our homes. But the need does not stop there. The beauty and value animals can bring to our lives, through connection, interaction, service, the wonder of nature, the beauty of the untouched world, and the world that has been forever changed due to humankind.

All animals of this world are special and to be celebrated.

Today is INTERNATIONAL CHARITY DAY.

Giving back to the community is important to us at Pet Society Vet.
We want to be part of making a difference for our clients, our staff, and importantly, others we can support.

Currently we donate to Safe Pets Safe Families organisation for client "thank yous" for word of mouth recommendations, and in honour of many beloved pets who we have said goodbye to, over the rainbow bridge.

We hope that our clients appreciate the acknowledgement and difference the donations we make on their behalf can create for others.

Giving something back to those in need creates meaning and importance in the work we provide.
We are aware there are many very worthy causes to support and hope our contributions are felt by others.

H A P P Y F A T H E R S D A Y 2 0 2 3

We believe a Dad is not just made from those who have given life to a human offspring.
A Dad is someone who has taken on the role of caring for and loving another dependent sole... humans, dogs, cats, rabbits, lizards... and anyone you call family.

Today we acknowledge the unsung heros who have taken on the role of care giver and security provider. The people who have opened their homes and hearts. The people who are always there for their kid/pets when they need them. Those that know they would go to many lengths to look after and provide for their family.

And here is also to those who are missing their dads or cannot be with the ones that make them a dad. Days like this come in all shapes, sizes, and feelings across the world.
We see you too ###

Recently, Nurse Leanne was asked to present at the Hills Nutrition Summit in Hobart.

She prepared a lecture on Caecal Impaction in the dog, and ways to address gut motility issues through diet and medical management.
Public speaking does not come naturally to many people, but Leanne took on the invite to present a great lecture to the attendants.

We are especially proud of Leanna and all her achievements, and to be able to call her one of our Pet Society Vet team members.

Nurse Leanne takes nutritional consultations, as well as assisting the vet team to create feeding plans for weight loss, medical nutritional support, hospital patient support and much more.

If you want to consider a consultation with Leanne you can book online or give us a call.

During our Dental Health Focus period we are performing many dental procedures and many of those have dental X-rays.

As in human dentistry, X-rays are an essential tool utilized to determine the health of the teeth. Many disease processes lurk below the gum line and can be impossible to detect without the use of X-rays.

Pet Society Vet can do this all on site to provide best evidence based recommendations on your pet’s dental health care needs.

It’s not too late to book your pet’s dental health check or procedure.

Pet Society Vet is looking to add a casual nurse to join our team for the months of October to December.

We are a boutique clinic located on Unley Road in the leafy, aesthetic suburb of Malvern. We are currently a 1 vet and 4 nurse team, with 1-2 nurses rostered most days, with some days requiring 3 nurses to manage the growing case load.

We are an ISFM Sliver Certified practice, Ceva Calm Clinic, and all staff are Fear Free certified. We practice force free techniques with all our patients. The clinic has separate cat and dog consult rooms, with a third that is utilized as needed from boarding the occasional cats, a quiet space for staff to work on the computer or overflow consults. We have a dedicated purpose-built sterile theatre, imaging suite, and multiple treatments stations. The software programme used is Ezyvet which is easily integrated with our Heska in clinic laboratory, dental and standard imaging for ease convenience.

Pet Society Vet is a pet centric, high standards of care clinic for small animals with a dedicated client base that is rapidly growing. We pride ourselves on a fun and safe workspace where each individual is supported and encouraged to expand their areas of passion.

We are looking to attract a nurse with a minimum of 2 years of experience with values that align with our clinic values, good communication skills and a want to care for the pets and people within the Pet Society Community. The job role includes the expectations to perform nurse consults, anaesthesia monitoring, hospital and surgical patient management, reception, client relations, patient holding for examination, catheter placement and blood collection. A knowledge of Ezyvet would be ideal but not essential.
Check out our website to get more of an understanding about what we do, who we are and our values @ petsocietyvet.com.au.

Whilst we are looking for a nurse for causal contact there is the possibility of the contract to be continued with prospects of a permanent contract for the right person.

If you would like a join our amazing team, then please send your resume to [email protected]

A pet-centric veterinary clinic where knowledge, expertise and collaboration are harnessed to provide the best veterinary care for each pet and their human.

Its time to meet Nurse Tanya (& her bestie Jude)
Tanya has been working casually with Pet Society Vet for the last few months and are very happy to show her off to our community.

Tanya started her pet care career in 2010 and gained her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing in 2013.
She is an amazing surgical and anaesthetic nurse who has worked with some of South Australia’s best veterinary surgeons over the years and is often requested by her vets to be in the big cases, as her knowledge and skills set her apart.

Tanya is a self-confessed cat lover and will take every opportunity to meet the felines in our clinic. The way she can read the cats and their needs to be handled in a safe and friendly way is a skill that is difficult to pass on. Some people “just have the cat knack” - when you know, you know.
This does not take away from her expanse of skills in nursing many other patients with varying needs and caring for the clients of our community. She listens with a compassionate and understanding ear, and always wants the best for you and your pet.

You will see Tanya smiling as she greets you at your appointment from our reception, or she will be in the clinic dedicating her time and energy into the best care for the patients in her charge, often staying back to ensure she can see through her cases.

She has been an animal lover her whole life and one of her favourite things has always been when a friendly neighbourhood cat finds her and is happy for her to give them a pat.

Like a lot of people in the Veterinary field she took home a tiny stray kitten home during her first few weeks in the industry. Jude (pictured), the black and white cat has been her constant companion ever since.
She believes all animals should be treated with respect and understanding and has strong belief in fear free principals.

And thank you to our amazing nurse Tanya who looked after everyone so well. Xx
