This weekend we will be sharing our latest blog post on helping our friends in the summer heat. So make sure to check it out!
In the meantime, things you need to know NOW.
🌞Do NOT walk your dog on surfaces that are too hot for you to touch - they can get sever burns to their feet.
🌞 Only provide a light walk early in the morning or late in the evening IF it is cool enough.
🌞 Make sure they have plenty of cool fresh water easily accessible
🌞 Give them plent of cool shade, and better yet, keep them indoors in an airconditioned zone.
🌞 If you have a thick coated breed like a Chow, Malamute, Pomeranian, Border Collie or even a Golden Retriever - Make sure you pay extra attention to these steps. Even being in the shade outside on a day like today can be too much for them.
🌞 If you have a Brachycephalic dog like a French Bulldog, Pug, or Boston Terrier - they cannot cool their bodies down as well as other breeds due to the reduced nasal area.
Our dogs cool themselves by panting and these guys really struggle to get the air movement for this cooling through their nasal airways.
🌞 If you have a dog with heart disease or respiratory disease, they are at much higher risk and should be in an airconditioned space and be checked on regularly.

Today is HUG YOUR CAT DAY (if they consent)
If you are like us, you love your cat and every cat has a special personality.
It is a sacred thing to be blessed with lap cuddles from our feline friends.
In our home if you are bestowed in such an honor, you are abdicated from all responsibilities until the cat chooses to move from your lap.
Otherwise known as "To be CATIFIED"
Those people who say they are not "cat people" just haven't had a cat choose them before.
We know that one of the most emotional connections is between the family cat and the family member that didn't want to get a cat.
So when you hear someone say "I only like my cat" remind them they are a cat person too!

It is great to see that we are developing more community understanding and knowledge around the challenges that the industry and its individuals face.
This year we are specifically focusing on diversity and inclusivity. Privilege leads to many people to be unaware of the challenges faced by some demographics within our society and community. We all have value and an important place in this world, and in our industry.

Wednesday 26th is International Guide Dog Day.
A day to celebrate and give thanks to all the dogs, trainers, foster carers, donations, and contributions towards raising and supporting vision impaired people across the globe.
These dogs are amazing!!
In South Australia we have RSB and Guide Dogs SA/NT, who have programmes to develop and train our guide dogs.
Over the years I have had the pleasure of looking after many, through their foster puppy stage, through some training stages, and then as service dogs to their owners. These are very beloved animals that offer a great benefit to support their person.
Hats off to all the volunteers, workers, foster carers, dog trainers, ethical breeders, vets and so many more who give their best for this great cause.

Once downloaded you can add as many animals as you like. Add photos for their profile pic, save past documents and certificates. Take photos and videos for record keeping and to show us at your consults as needed.
This is great for odd behaviours noticed, or to monitor lumps or wound progression.
When it comes time for your pets next vaccination we can scan the corresponding QR code and you have an official certificate in digital app form.
You can also record their birthday, microchip, insurance details all in one spot.
If you need reminding for monthyl preventatives, or want a prompt to tell you when you need to arrange a script refill, it is all in the app. AND you can send us a medication request directly from the app, follow the link to the online booking portal and email us (or boarding facilities etc) the vaccination certificates.

What is Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM)?
Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) is the study of body’s continual flow of energy, the Qi. The Qi travels through each Meridian, or energy channels, throughout the body. When the distribution of Qi is equally distributed, the body has achieved harmonious balance of Yin and Yang. Some organ systems relate to Yin (parts lower than the head, dark, cool) and the others relate to Yang (high on the animal's body, hot, energised). The Meridians are named after the organ system it follows and are paired in a corresponding Yin -Yang relationship for balance.
When there is pathway interference to the flow of Qi, Yin and Yang are thrown out of balance, resulting in either an accumulation or deficiency which in turn causes illness.
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medical practice involving the precise placement of acupuncture needles into acupoints along the body’s meridians, which circulates the animal's Qi to stimulate the animal's own body to heal from their imbalances. In more scientific terms, it changes the physiology within the animal to promote healing.
Acupuncture and TCVM are ancient practices dating back millions of years. Current science and medicine continues to gather data that supports and explains the benefits of acupuncture for humans and many other animals.
