This weekend we will be sharing our latest blog post on helping our friends in the summer heat. So make sure to check it out!
In the meantime, things you need to know NOW.
🌞Do NOT walk your dog on surfaces that are too hot for you to touch - they can get sever burns to their feet.
🌞 Only provide a light walk early in the morning or late in the evening IF it is cool enough.
🌞 Make sure they have plenty of cool fresh water easily accessible
🌞 Give them plent of cool shade, and better yet, keep them indoors in an airconditioned zone.
🌞 If you have a thick coated breed like a Chow, Malamute, Pomeranian, Border Collie or even a Golden Retriever - Make sure you pay extra attention to these steps. Even being in the shade outside on a day like today can be too much for them.
🌞 If you have a Brachycephalic dog like a French Bulldog, Pug, or Boston Terrier - they cannot cool their bodies down as well as other breeds due to the reduced nasal area.
Our dogs cool themselves by panting and these guys really struggle to get the air movement for this cooling through their nasal airways.
🌞 If you have a dog with heart disease or respiratory disease, they are at much higher risk and should be in an airconditioned space and be checked on regularly.

Today is HUG YOUR CAT DAY (if they consent)
If you are like us, you love your cat and every cat has a special personality.
It is a sacred thing to be blessed with lap cuddles from our feline friends.
In our home if you are bestowed in such an honor, you are abdicated from all responsibilities until the cat chooses to move from your lap.
Otherwise known as "To be CATIFIED"
Those people who say they are not "cat people" just haven't had a cat choose them before.
We know that one of the most emotional connections is between the family cat and the family member that didn't want to get a cat.
So when you hear someone say "I only like my cat" remind them they are a cat person too!

We are passionate about supporting the people within our industry and World Vet Day is a personally important day to take measure of the efforts and commitments of our amazing vets.
It is great to see that we are developing more community understanding and knowledge around the challenges that the industry and its individuals face.
This year we are specifically focusing on diversity and inclusivity. Privilege leads to many people to be unaware of the challenges faced by some demographics within our society and community. We all have value and an important place in this world, and in our industry.
In the WVA's own words, "Removing barriers and improving inclusiveness through diversity, equity, and inclusion policies and practices, in a diverse world, needs a special focus. The well-being of all veterinarians is enhanced when diversity, equity and inclusion is promoted and applied."
This is something we actively practice and support. You may see people of all walks of life at our clinic - clients and staff - and we welcome them all with respect and gratitude , and expect the same from all of our community.
