January started with Teddy still as our houseguest and continued visits to his kitty siblings Juno and Caesar. Juno is usually very shy but after a couple of times she was brave enough for pats. I also started visits to sweet Lily who was adopted by my clients after being in foster with my lovely friend Tania ( Ginger Ninja Rescue ). Lily was also shy and hid for the first few visits but then became a total smoocher, trust has to be earned. Lilys family also has chooks and fishes, one cheeky chook escapes and roams the garden, living her best life. Little Sassy was next, she loves toys and we found a lovely spot around wetlands to walk, Sassy enjoyed watching the ducksπŸ˜…. Regular houseguest Sienna then arrived, she had been having ongoing issues with one of her toes, happy to report nothing sinister was found and she is back walking again. l then headed up to petsit Zed at Walleroo, he just loved his beach walks and his dips in the sea, he told you exactly when it was time to go.πŸ˜†. Hope you enjoy all the photos.
Teddy, Caesar, Juno, Lily, Sasha( Sassy), Sienna, Zed.

Sometimes our volunteers get called upon at all different hours of the day, what does a random day at Safe Pets Safe families look like, at 8am we had a crisis call from a young client and their dog that had a bone stuck in their mouth, the dog needed to be sedated to get the bone out. Then we started on the jobs from the night before, coordinating volunteers to transport animals into foster, coordinating other non urgent appointments, in house feeding of a cat for client who is in hospital, transporting cats home, and so much more the list goes on and it doesn't stop when normal business hours close.

Right now, a volunteer met me at the vet just after 10pm....

Because we have this gorgeous married couple in care with us. Unfortunately, the 16 year old male had collapsed twice, the first time his heart actually stopped, and our foster did CPR the second time it didn't stop thankfully, However, we came to the emergency vet to see what is going on, fingers crossed he just needs some heart meds or something and still has some time left as his owners are homeless and seperated from them at the moment. They are at the vet with them right now though, we called them incase it's time to say goodbye. We also bought both dogs down incase one has to also say goodbye the other is 15 they are inseparable.

Send your love ❀️

Will update you all as soon as we know what's happening.

It takes a village to run Safe Pets Safe families, we could not run this absolutely vital essential service if we didn't have the love and support from our community and networks.

Thank you 😊 we are so grateful even in the gloomy times.

Wow October was a busy one, my time with my cute fur Nephew Alfie came to a end, l did some visits with happy Border Collie Charlie and Bunny Peter. We then had a lovely boy Nacho as a houseguest, he soon settled in and erm was very relaxed as you can see πŸ˜…. More visits with beautiful ragdolls Shiloh and Bodhi, they definitely know my car's sound when l arrive now. I also had visits to Miss Rebel, my dear friends little cat, she's very comfortable with me so her Mum and Dad could enjoy a much needed break. We then had cuddly boy Cooper as a houseguest, my couch isn't big enough for a greyhound and me but Whippet Cooper was the perfect size. I then started petsitting Milo and Evie, Milo was straight out, l was told Evie was more shy of new people but she soon came around. It was right on to petsit gorgeous nugget Harley to end the month, he loves his walks and sleeping, we had nanna naps together πŸ˜΄πŸ˜…β€

SPSF - DOMESTIC VIOLENCE/HOMELESSNESS

When you have a pet that's part of your family, fleeing domestic violence isn't easy. Until I was certain my dog (Marcel) was safe, I wouldn't leave him. There's no negotiation with my pets.

After contacting a few shelters, the only solution offered was to surrender Marcel and buy him back as soon as I found accommodation. Luckily that's when SPSF (Safe Pets Safe Families) was introduced to me.

As soon as I left my home, I was housed in DV motel crisis accommodation where pets were not allowed.

SPSF took immediate action, and picked Marcel up and took him to a foster home. Knowing he would be in a safe home until I could reunite with him was such a relief.

My SPSF case worker arranged for me to have weekly catch ups with Marcel. I could also contact SPSF to get updates on him. I was relieved by those updates - knowing he wasn't stressed. That was huge to stay connected, and find out he was doing well.

Marcel was in and out of foster care with SPSF for some time, and he seemed really happy. It was so comforting as I didn't have any friends or family to help out by taking him.

Knowing he was safe allowed me to focus on getting on my feet again by finding a permanent home. It may not happen to everyone, but I realised fleeing domestic violence was my first problem, my second problem was homelessness.

Marcel returned to me with new toys and photos for my collection. SPSF understands how important pets are to their owners.

My SPSF case worker was amazing. She was like a supportive and understanding friend. She went above and beyond to keep Marcel and I connected through a tough time.

I've used the SPSF Pop-Up Vet Clinics, been issued a loan through the , which helped me pay vet bills and been given pet goodie bags and pet coats.

These services have been a god send to me and Marcel. They show really understands it's not just about pets, it's about the relationship between the pet 🐈and the person🧍.

My sympathy is with Peter and his family after the loss of their darling little girl Tinkerbell on Monday. I had a lovely time caring for Tink back in November last year, she always enjoyed her outings and for a senior girl those little legs could move. I am so very glad l got to see her last week when l took her for a little walk, she loved having lots of sniffs. RiP little Tink, you are loved and missed sweet girl. β€πŸ’”β€

Sneak Peak at our brand new Mobile Vet Van made possible thanks to SavourLife ❀️

We are a complete volunteer program, a registered Vet Service provider managed by a Veterinary Advisory Board. We also have a team of volunteer vets, nurses, groomers and general volunteers who regularly give their time to the work we do.

Paws & Pals runs free pop up vet clinics for pets of people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The clinic provides preventative veterinary care, grooming, donations of food and supplies for both humans and animals and is an important outreach service that connects us to vulnerable people so that we can support them further through our other programs.

Our outreach service is aimed at removing barriers for people living rough- We provide doggy day care which means they are able to get to their housing or medical appointments and access basic human needs such as shopping or showers. Once our clients meet us and begin to trust us, we can also refer them to our sister programs, Safe Pets Foster Program, Community Vet Fund or connect people to other services by providing advocacy and support.

Our Paws & Pals pop up clinics have been running for 7 years now and are always a great day- you can feel the love and appreciation from both humans and animals who are able to access services they might not otherwise be able to afford, and it may even help them keep their precious pets healthier for longer β™₯️

We are so excited for the new adventures we will be able to embark on with a purpose built vehicle... Watch this space!

A Special thanks to Boehringer Ingelheim for their ongoing support to ensure all the pets are vaccinated and have parasite control and all our Volunteer Veterinarians, Vet Nurses, Groomers and volunteers.
