🐾 Tiny paws, big milestones! 🐾

We had the absolute pleasure of seeing four beautiful 6-week-old Cavoodle puppies from poochiecavoodles. They came in for their first vet check, vaccination, and microchipping with Dr Suzie - such a big step in setting them all up for a lifetime of happiness!

These little ones were bursting with personality, full of curiosity, and of course, plenty of tail wags. Because we are a small, independent clinic, we love taking the time to get to know each and every pet as an individual - not just another appointment.

We cannot wait to see these cuties grow into their new families’ best friends! 💖

🐾💛 Maple’s Big Girl Moment 💛🐾

This gorgeous 1 year old had her desexing procedure recently, and is already back to her normal active self and giving plenty of cuddles to her family.

Thinking about desexing your pet? Our friendly vets can guide you with a tailored plan that best suits your pet’s age, health, and lifestyle.

Maple had already experienced her first heat before her recommended desexing age - which is common for medium to large breeds when we wait a little longer than 6 months to desex. Desexing larger dogs later can support healthy joint development and may reduce the risk of some orthopaedic problems later in life❗️

Maple may not be considered a puppy anymore, but she sure knows how to give her best ‘puppy eyes’ to score extra cuddles and kisses from the team.

You may be thinking ‘what is the reason for the colourful leg bandages’ in our photos. And the answer is an important one:

For various situations, most commonly when we are anaesthetising a patient, we need to place an intravenous (IV) line (sometimes called a catheter or cannula).
This is required because:
1) many medications are given directly into the vein, and this gives us safe and fast access
2) all patients undergoing anaesthesia in our clinic receive IV fluids, which helps maintain circulation to the tissues, support blood pressure, and prevent dehydration.

It is important to clip the hair away prior to placing an IV line because we need to disinfect the skin to help reduce the chances of infection. With many types of coats, it is difficult to see the vein without clipping. It also helps us to secure the line with tape.

In this photo, we can see a green bandage over Jayda’s foreleg, matching her beautiful green eyes! 💚 This is covering her IV line, which she had placed prior to her dental procedure. The line is left in place until the patient is recovered, so we can give them additional medications or fluids as needed.

If there’s any questions you would like answered, let us know in the comments!

🐾 Sweet little Rhubarb came in recently for her desexing procedure 💕 She’s not just any patient - she’s veterinary nurse Narelle’s beloved companion, and of course, she was spoiled with extra cuddles and TLC! 🐶❤️

Rhubarb was a brave girl, and having her favourite crocodile toy (and human beside her) made the day a little easier 💖🐾

At Newton Vet Centre, we understand how important your pets are - because we’re pet parents too. Whether your furry friend belongs to a member of our team or is visiting us for the very first time, every patient is treated with the same care, compassion, and attention. From gentle hands to calming reassurance (and maybe a snuggle with a favourite toy), we go the extra distance to make sure your pet feels safe, supported, and loved every step of the way 🐾✨

🐾 Maddie’s Journey 🐾

Back in October 2024, sweet Maddie came to our clinic feeling very unwell. She hadn’t been eating for days, was vomiting and had diarrhoea, and showed signs of severe jaundice - a yellowing of the skin and eyes that can indicate liver dysfunction. She was dehydrated, had lost 400g, and was in obvious abdominal discomfort.

Maddie was admitted for hospitalisation , bloods taken for diagnostics, and placed on intravenous fluids while awaiting an ultrasound. As she was reluctant to eat, Dr Suzie placed a feeding tube, allowing our nurses to provide the nutrition she needed directly to her stomach without causing her stress.

Her ultrasound, done at Tea Tree Gully Veterinary Hospital, revealed severe pancreatitis and secondary hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver disease). Thanks to the dedication of Maddie’s owners, who tube-fed her throughout the night and brought her into the clinic during the day for continued tube feeding and ongoing supportive fluid care, she made great progress✨🐱

Fast forward to June 2025 - Maddie is thriving! She’s regained all her weight (and then some!), eating like a champion, enjoying every treat that comes her way, and is no longer vomiting or having diarrhoea. She’s happy, healthy, and loving life thanks to the dedicated care from Dr Suzie and our nurses ❤️🐾
