Meet Trixie 💙

Adopted recently, this 18 years old, elegant Russian Blue has found her forever home!
This sweet old girl is now living her best life—delicious food, heated blankets, and all the love she deserves.
We love seeing senior pets getting the royal treatment and enjoy being a part of keeping them happy and healthy.

Meet Gerry 🧡 One of my lovely feline patients, who has suffered for years with anxiety.
She is pictured here in a gentle cat wrap which helps me to examine her safely and actually aids in calming her during her check ups.

When I first met her she would rarely come out from under the bed and would hiss and spit at me or any other visitors 😟

She’s much calmer now and is happy to interact with regular visitors and have cuddles with her family.

Cats that are nervous, like Gerry, cope better with vet visits at home 🏡 💛

An anxiety disorder in your pet is not nice for them. If this sounds like your furry friend, please allow us to help them live their best lives.

🦷 Georgia’s Smile Makeover 🦷

This is Georgia a few days before she had some teeth removed. Cute? Definitely. But her breath… not so much! 😅🤢

Dental disease is super common in pets and often goes unnoticed. It can cause pain, infections, and even affect their organs over time.

At Edna’s Vet, I offer gentle dental checks during home visits - no stress, no clinic trip, just care where they’re comfiest. 🐾

Georgia’s now feeling fresher, happier, and more herself – and your pet could too. 🥰

Bad breath? Let’s take a look.

🌈Gentle Goodbyes at Home

Saying goodbye to a beloved pet is one of the hardest things we ever do — but it doesn’t have to be rushed, clinical, or stressful.
Our home visit service allows your pet to remain in the comfort of their familiar surroundings, surrounded by love, rather than in a busy clinic.
If you’re facing difficult decisions about your pet’s quality of life, we’re here to guide you with compassion and clarity. 💛

Meet Georgia – the newest member of the Edna’s Vet family ❤️

She’s a senior ex-racing greyhound with a tough past and a nasty old leg injury, but she’s now safe and loved. In the past 2 weeks she’s had more orthopaedic work done at Adelaide Plains Vet and some surgical dental extractions done at Virginia Vets and she’s recovering like a champion.

Greyhounds in foster care must wear a muzzle in public, but Georgia has shown nothing but gentleness with kids, chickens, and Edna the mini-groodle. Once officially adopted, the muzzle can come off—but by law, she’ll always need to stay on-lead in public (even though she’d love a good run).

Georgia is an affectionate, calm couch potato and she has our hearts.
Thanks to Greyhounds As Pets South Australia for rescuing her and bringing her into our lives. 💛

Severe weather warning for this week ⛈️🫣

Please keep an eye on the weather forecast.

Make sure your pets are safe inside or in a secure yard with somewhere they can hide.

Check that your microchip contact details are up to date, and your pet is wearing a collar and (legible) tag if there is any chance they can escape.

Now is the time to be shaking the dust of those thunder shirts, and using your calming supplements and pheromones.

For those of you who have pets with storm anxiety who have been prescribed medication, remember it takes about 2 hours to be fully effective and is best used BEFORE your pet becomes concerned.

If you have a dog or cat that suffers during storms; please reach out as we can help 🥰

Stay safe everyone!

Meet the Edna’s Vet Team!

Some of you already know me, the vet, Dr Amanda (in the yellow).

Many of you would also have spoken to Rebecca. Rebecca is a qualified, experienced and brilliant vet nurse. She is the calming and knowledgeable voice on the end of the line when you ring Edna’s Vet.

Rebecca and I met about a decade ago when she was one of my vet nurses here in a vet hospital in Adelaide. She is currently living in Queensland with her young family, but came for a visit over the Easter break. She is a powerhouse of a mum, who simultaneously handles all the phone calls that we receive, and helps keep me organised.

I know how lucky I am to have her as part of Edna’s Vet. I believe many of you have been touched by her caring and patient nature.

She is one in a million.
Thank you Rebecca 🙏

Harper is a dog who gets so scared in vet clinics that she becomes hysterical and bashes herself into doors and walls to get out.

This delightful girl is happy with house-calls for her vet visits, and I just love to see her.

Do you know a dog that may be happier at home as well??

Rocky saying a slobbery thank-you for using numbing cream for his blood test.

Why do vets do blood tests?
They give us a lot more information about a patient than a physical exam alone.
They are useful for diagnosing and monitoring illness as well as providing base-lines for their general wellbeing.

How do I do blood tests without a nurse?💉

Surprisingly, a lot of pets tolerate blood tests better when they are not terrified 🤔🤗
I use simple tricks like treats and numbing cream.
Sometimes I use mild sedation prior to the visit.
Often I use a muzzle or wrap for my own safety.
Occasionally I make the judgement to not do them, and refer to a clinic.

Rocky however, was a champion. Yay Rocky !!! 🏆
