You will still be able to speak to our lovely vet nurse, Rebecca on 0414 871 855 during normal hours.

We also have a brilliant veterinarian available for Telemedicine appointments; many of you may already know Dr Arielle Bridges 👩‍⚕️☺️

And most importantly, Edna the mini groodle will still be getting lots of walks on the beach and cuddles 🥰

Apologies..

The Edna’s Vet team uses call forwarding so that when you call us on 0414 871 855 you speak to the person manning the phones at that particular time.
Today I accidentally forwarded the phones to a random person in Tasmania 😬

So I am sorry to all of you who tried to call us today and instead got a very confused person on the end of the line.
And I am even sorrier to the poor person who received multiple calls today from worried pet owners.

Thank you to the people who informed me via email of the this mix-up 🙏
I am going to relax for the weekend then try harder next week 😖🌸

Saying good-bye to a beloved pet is heart-breaking. If you are making the difficult decision to euthanase your pet there are some things you may not have thought of that may help make the passing feel more special to you and peaceful for your pet.

1. The location. Ideally choose somewhere that your pet feels is familiar and where you may grieve privately. It may be in your garden or in the living room on the couch; wherever your pet feels most comfortable on the day.
2. The people. You may wish to have close family or friends present at the passing of your pet, to share in your grief or to help support you afterwards. It is not unusual to have absent family or friends be present via zoom or FaceTime. Children often wish to be present, and this is perfectly ok. Equally, you may choose not to be there as it is too difficult. We do recommend someone familiar to your pet stays until at least they start to become sleepy.
3. Food - if your pet still wants to eat, just before the euthanasia is the time to eat all the good things (chocolate, wagyu beef, caviar, peanut butter, fried chicken, pizza, bacon: whatever takes your pet’s fancy )
4. Mood - this is very personal and different for everyone but often people play soft music, light a candle, or have the TV on in the background quietly because that is what is most normal for their home and their pet.
5. Memoirs. You may wish to take photos before or afterwards of your pet, or keep a bit of fur. This is not weird, a lot of people do it and treasure the pictures afterwards. Do not be afraid to ask. Some people write letters to their pet that may go with them for cremation or burial, telling them how much they are loved. Children often like to draw pictures to send off with their beloved pet. Perhaps a small toy or photo may be something that stays with them.

Edna’s Vet has had the honour of helping many beloved pets pass peacefully at home. Every euthanasia is unique and we try to make it as peaceful and personal for you and your pet as possible. (Just quietly - I’m not sure what scares me more - a scared 1kg chihuahua or a scared 70kg rottweiller!! 🤣😳 - luckily Chicargo loved her home-vet-visit!! 😅 )

Archer is a happy 15 years old Staffy.

He has typical old-dog ailments; arthritis, lumps and dental problems but overall he is very well for his age.

After a visit from Edna’s Vet this week, he is feeling more spritely already.

Improving the wellbeing of old patients is a wonderful thing 🥰

Toby deserves a 🏅for bravery.

This handsome boy needs regular blood tests to help manage his epilepsy.

He gets too overexcited at vet clinics but at home we get blood taken without any restraint or sedation - just lots of treats and some numbing cream.

I’m a bit excited about meeting this litter of eleven puppies!!🤩

These Rhodesian Ridgebacks will all be having health checks and microchips and vaccinations tomorrow before they head off to their new families. They have been reared with so much love and care it makes sense to have them checked in the safety (and convenience!) of their home.

Norman was living on the streets 🥺

He was trapped and is now living a very comfortable life in a lovely home with all his needs being met 😺

He does, however, require a little pharmaceutical intervention for his vet checks as he still has that wild streak and instinctive fear of strangers.

With the medication on board, everything went well for his vaccinations and no one got hurt.

Norman is definitely one of the lucky ones and it is wonderful to work with people as kind as his new mumma 💕

Tippa is in perfect physical health but does have some anxiety.

I am so excited to introduce this new family-owned business in Marino; Happy Dog.

Kristen is a certified massage and canine hydrotherapist and a member of the Australian Canine Rehabilitation Association. Her brand new facility is equipped with a state-of-the-art underwater treadmill.

Getting dogs with poor mobility and chronic pain back on their feet is one of the most rewarding things I do at Edna’s Vet. I am thrilled that there is now someone as skilled and delightful as Kristen to help them even more, right here on our doorstep.

“Pig was a pug and I’m sorry to say, he was greedy and selfish in most every way” Aaron Blabey 📖

Pig the pug is an unpleasant greedy character but he inspired someone to purchase two pugs and she named them Fonzie and Tazie.

Fonzie and Tazie fell in love and now there are more pugs: Joanie, Snuffy and Monkey 🙉🙈🙊

I had the pleasure of checking and vaccinating these wrinkled cherubs and am happy to say none of them are like Pig 😅

To hug a pug (or five) is definitely a perk of the job and this little family is totally gorgeous 🥰

Doggy dementia is tough.

Charli has started staring at walls, barking at her open doggy door to be let in and pacing at night. The first thing we will do is try to determine if she has any physical problems or pain that may be causing the behaviour. If it is looking like she may be experiencing cognitive decline, then there are things we can do to improve her wellbeing.

Do you have an aging pet that may need some help?
