Every dog has a different learning style. What works for one dog may not work for another. Dogs are truly unique, just like humans.
This beautiful boy gets frustrated if the task is too challenging and doesn't follow lures.
We have adapted our training style to keep him focused by keeping the training sessions short, sweet, and in easy, bite-size pieces.
Understanding your dog’s learning style is essential to ensure training doesn’t become a burden for either of you and to get the most out of your dog.
Remember, training should be enjoyable for both you and your dog. Don’t forget to add some playtime and let your dog be a dog. We incorporate playtime and relaxation activities like sniffing, swimming, or running to keep him engaged and his arousal levels low.
Engage-Disengage Game featuring Nala 🐕
Incredible work by Nala and Susan today.
Only our second session back and Nala is listening so well even in the presence of our fake dog Rodney.
We are using the engage - disengage game and a heel cue to help Nala regulate herself around other dogs. Great work
Such a beautiful morning here in FNQ!
We have the loveable Percy demonstrating some basic trick training.
Teaching your dog simple tricks or tasks on a walk can help strengthen the bond between you and your dog. It also helps them focus on you when distractions like other dogs and people are around. Plus, it's a fun and enriching experience for your dog!

Enrichment in the dog park!
I was contacted by Rocco’s guardians as he was full of energy and struggled with Inappropriate mouthing behaviour.
He didn’t realise his own strength and was becoming a bit of a handful.
I analysed his behaviour and came up with a tailor made behaviour plan for his guardians to follow.
I showed them step by step how best to manage him and teach Rocco the appropriate way with how to deal with his frustrations and energy.
His owners have worked so hard and gone above and beyond to now reap the benefits and see results.
Here you can see him having fun at a dog park with lots of enrichment. Having a dog should be fun and this is what they have created. Well done!

We all know how important recall is.
Especially up in FNQ with all of the amazing wildlife we have here.
Even if your dog is a recall star you should continue practicing and reinforcing the behaviour.
Here are a few tips to help you achieve a great recall.
Tips
🐾 DO use a long lead until you have a reliable recall
🐾 DO start training in a quiet area with few distractions
🐾 DO make sure you get your dogs attention first before giving the recall command
🐾 DO give commands in a pleasant tone, just loud enough that you are sure that your
dog can distinguish your voice from background noise
🐾 DO reward your dog whenever he/she returns to you. Initially use a treat or tug
game
🐾 DO clip them on the lead a few times throughout the walk. This will stop your dog from associating being put on the lead with the end of the walk
🐾 DO have fun with your dog
✘ DO NOT repeat commands. They will become insignificant, and your dog will learn that it can ignore commands
✘ DO NOT shout. Your dog may be afraid to return to you if you are angry
✘ DO NOT chase your dog. He/she may misinterpret the chase as a form of play
✘ DO NOT use your recall command if there is no chance your dog is coming back. If you need to get them back in an emergency, use high excitement and running in the opposite direction. Although you may feel silly it usually does the trick.

Charlie and Molly having lots of fun on the beach on Saturday during their training session.
I like to train in real life scenarios so I can show you how to deal with situations and behaviours as they occur.
We were working on leash reactivity with these gorgeous two but it’s important to have fun in between to help build those positive associations and most importantly have a great relationship with your dog.
