Thinking about getting a puppy? 🐾
Here’s the not-so-cute side no one puts on Instagram:
✨ Knowledge – Puppies don’t arrive knowing how to sit nicely, walk politely, or leave your shoes alone. Training isn’t optional, it’s essential. If you don’t have the time to learn (or the patience to teach), you’ll be raising a future headache.
✨Choosing the right breed for you - THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO CONSIDER. What was the breed bred to do? What outlets or activities do they generally love to do? Does this fit into my lifestyle?
✨ Time – Puppies are not “set and forget.” Think toilet breaks every hour, socialisation in the right way (not going to dog parks and meeting everyone), training sessions, playtime, and supervision so they don’t eat your couch. If you’re too busy now, think again.
✨ Money – Beyond the cost of buying/adopting, factor in vet care, quality food, toys, training, grooming, and the “whoops, they swallowed a sock” emergency vet trip.
Puppies are so cute, but they don’t pay their own bills.
A well-trained, well-adjusted adult dog is the product of months (actually, years) of consistent effort. Yes, there will be ups and downs and day you complete cannot be F***ed! Thats ok, and so normal!
So, if you’re ready with knowledge, time, and money: amazing! Or if you are willing to learn, awesome. Your future self (and your future dog) will thank you.
