This special memorial plaque stands in dedication to the 296 individuals who were laid to rest at The Cemetery on The Hill between 1850 and 1985, but whose exact burial locations have been lost to time. Their names, now etched in remembrance, ensure that they are never forgotten.

Many laid to rest at The Cemetery on The Hill once braved the seas, migrating from England to South Australia in search of a better future. The journey was often long and dangerous. In calm weather a ship might take as long as three to four months to reach Australia, while a well-run ship with the help of favourable winds could make the journey in a little over half this time.

Their stories are etched in the community and are now preserved in the sacred grounds of our cemetery. Watch out for their stories in our Legacies in Stone posts.

While we can appreciate that sometimes your own council bin gets full before collection, please do not use our bin to dump your rubbish you can not fit. We will be on the lookout for you now, don’t do it again.
