We have giant news! ๐ผ
Put your paws together for Xing Qiu and Yi Lan - the two Giant Pandas that will join Adelaide Zoo in the very near future.
Male, Xing Qiu (pronounced shing chee-y-ull), is three years old and is described as a very handsome panda with a docile but lively personality.
Meaning โstar Autumnโ, Xing Qiuโs name describes his birth season and the starry sky that was twinkling above on the night he was born.
Three-year-old female, Yi Lan (pronounced ee-lun), is described as a playful and very beautiful panda. Her name means โidly blissfulโ.
After many discussions and careful consideration, Xing Qiu and Yi Lan were chosen as the best fit for life here in Adelaide.
Their arrival will allow us to continue to spark a love for Giant Panda conservation not only here in South Australia but around the world!
We feel very honoured to be entrusted with the care of such a beautiful species and, while we donโt yet have a date for their arrival, we look forward to sharing more black-and-white news with you as the next chapter of our Giant Panda journey begins!
This is how excited we are to be celebrating the Teddy Bears Picnic this weekend! ๐งธ๐ผ
Join in the furry fun as we celebrate Wang Wang and Fu Ni with face painting, arts and crafts, colouring in, and a bubbly enrichment bath - all free for Zoos SA members and included with zoo entry for non-members. ๐ฅณ
Donโt miss your last chance to wish Wang Wang and Fu Ni a 'beary' happy birthday! ๐พ
Happy first Birthday Winnie and Walter! ๐ง๐พ
Adelaide Zooโs Cape Porcupine brothers' party went off without a prickle today as they enjoyed colourful enrichment balls filled with tasty pellets and delicious pumpkin cupcakes.
As a nocturnal species, you will often spot the brothers snoozing in the straw. But keep an eye out as they love to take a peek outside, especially when there is food about!

Who will win the Showdown tomorrow night, Adelaide Football Club or Port Adelaide Football Club?
Squirrel Glider, Geronimo, has put his tip in for the winner! ๐พ
Teeny paws galore โค๏ธ Can you spot two adorable faces blending into some fabulous furry coats?
A set of critically-endangered Cotton-top Tamarin twins have joined the troop, while the Yellow-footed Rock-wallaby mob have two fluffy joeys in pouch!
The adorable news comes just in time for International Cotton-top Tamarin Day today and for National Science Week, which is celebrating the theme โSpecies Survival: More than just sustainabilityโ. ๐๐ฑ
Spot the adorable twins in the Tamarin House and overhead tunnels and keep an eye out for the five-month-old wallaby joeys popping their heads out of the pouches of Fennel and Flore. ๐พ

A very happy birthday to this lofty lady! ๐ฅณ
Today we're celebrating Kimya the giraffe's 20th birthday! Kimya, meaning 'quiet one', has called Adelaide Zoo home for the last 18 years and has become a favourite of keepers and visitors alike. ๐ฆ
Like her name suggests, Kimya is a little shy and enjoys her daily routine. She loves munching on fig branches and licking carrot ice blocks on hot days. ๐ฆ๐ฟ๐ฅ
As a not-for-profit conservation charity, each visit helps support the conservation of these beautiful animals and our partners including the Giraffe Conservation Foundation.
Ravi is such a model Red Panda! ๐
Did you know that, despite their name, Red Pandas are more closely related to racoons rather than their black-and-white counterparts? ๐พ
Ravi can be seen high up in the trees of our Bamboo Forest, open daily from 9:45am ๐ฟ
๐ท Keeper Marcella
We think Adelaide Zoo's leaping Lemurs are next in line for an Olympic medal in pole vault! ๐๐ฅ
Ring-tailed Lemurs get their name from the black and white banded tail, which is usually around 60cm long. Their tail acts like a counter-balance when jumping from tree to tree.
Thanks to Zoos SA photographer, Natalia for this great photo ๐ท
Itโs been a busy week for the giraffe at Zoos SA, with the littlest member of Adelaide Zooโs tower, Matumi, moving back to Monarto Safari Park to join new arrival, Themba, a two-year-old male who made an 1100km journey all the way from Canberra. ๐ฆ
Transporting such large animals is a delicate task so Matumiโs dedicated keepers made sure he felt comfortable and safe in his specially-designed giraffe transport trailer. ๐พ๐
In the wild, male giraffe calves part ways with their mum around 18 months of age to join all male herds. With Matumi now reaching this age, he and Themba have formed a bachelor herd in Wild Africa. ๐ฆ๐พ
Staring contest? Go! ๐ธ
If you're a frog fan like us, you can visit the Red-eyed Tree-frogs in the Envirodome, open from 10am every day ๐
๐ท Thanks to keeper Kasey for the great snap!
Have you ventured in to say hello to male Komodo Dragon, Reba? ๐ฆ
Komodo Dragons are listed as endangered and itโs estimated there are less than 1,400 dragons left in the forests and beaches of Indonesian islands.

Happy International Tiger Day! ๐ฏ๐
Did you know that the pattern of a tiger's stripes is unique to each animal, just like fingerprints are to humans. The stripe pattern is found on a tigerโs skin and, if shaved, its distinctive pattern would remain. ๐คฏ
With approximately 400 Sumatran Tigers left in the wild, Adelaide Zoo's tigers Kembali, Delilah and cubs Susu, Marni and Ketambe play an important role in conservation of this critically endangered species. ๐พ
Peeking in to let you know that tomorrow is International Tiger Day! Show your stripes as we celebrate this pawsome species. ๐พ

๐ฏ Tiger feed at 11am

Meet Rambo the Brush-tailed Bettong - our very own supporter of the Aussie Olympic team for the 2024 Olympic Games! ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐บ
Zoos SA is helping this small species bounce back from the brink through the Marna Banggara rewilding project. In fact, we've successfully reintroduced 193 Brush-tailed Bettongs into Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park and the population is thriving โ now thatโs worth gold! ๐พ
We're cheering for both conservation and the Australian Olympic team. Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oi Oi, Oi! ๐ฅโฝ๏ธ๐๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ

Cape Porcupines are one of the largest rodents in the world, weighing up to a whopping 27kg and measuring almost one metre in length! ๐คฏ

Boop! ๐พ
There are two Southern Hairy-nosed Wombats that call Adelaide Zoo home, Harriet and Asher. ๐
Harriet is an intelligent, playful wombat who loves digging and running around her habitat. Her favourite tasty treats are sweet corn and kangaroo pellets. ๐ฝ
Asher was rescued outside Ceduna as a joey, and brought to Adelaide Zoo after rehabilitation from carers.
When these cuties aren't out playing, they love curling up under the heat lamp.

Meet the Little Pied Cormorant ๐ฆ
In the wild these birds can be seen around the coast of Australia, and even in New Zealand! These feathery friends have a diet of fish and are found in marine habitats like harbours, bays, and wetlands.
This Little Pied Cormorant can be found in Adelaide Zoo's walk through wetland aviary open 9:30am-4:30pm daily.
Red Panda lovers, can you spot the difference between Mishry and Ravi? ๐ค
Our top tip for telling the difference between these beautiful Red Pandas is to look at their faces. Mishry's fur around her face has slightly lighter colouring than Ravi. ๐พ
