Finally, some good news for rabbits. The AVPMA has recently approved the Filavac K C+V vaccine for rabbits, which protects against both the RHDV1 and RHDV2 strains of rabbit haemorrhagic disease. Until now we have been forced to to vaccinate our pet rabbits every 6 months and only against the RHDV1 strain. Now, with this approval, rabbits will only need to be vaccinated once a year, with the first dose given at 10 weeks, and 6 months between having the traditional Cylap vaccine and receiving the Filavac.
As we do anticipate supply disruptions, just as happened with Cylap over the past 24 months, we will have both vaccines available and our veterinarians will assist you with any questions or concerns when making the decision on the best choice of vaccine for you and your bunny.
