Meet Toby! 🐾

This handsome man came in for a check-up today. Weighing in at 61kgs, Toby is one of our largest patients here at Hawthorn! This big-boned boy is a Great Dane X which can reach upwards of 90kg. 😍

Don't be fooled by his tough looks, Mr. Toby is just a big boy with a big heart.

We love all of our patients, big and small. Have a great weekend! ⛱☀️

"Season's Tweetings!"🤣 How cute is this Christmas gift from the Animal Welfare League SA for our resident clinic Pigeon Bruce! So lovely of them to include him in their well wishes.
Some of you may have met Bruce. Even after various attempts to rehome him across the years (once as far as Gawler!) our Bruce has flown all the way back to the place he calls home.
On behalf of Bruce, and the rest of us all here at Hawthorn Vet, we wish our wonderful clients and our furry friends a fantastic Christmas!
We are taking a well-earned break (even if we do say so ourselves!) and will be closed between Christmas and New Years, reopening on January 2nd.
Please contact AdelaideVet for assistance, or SASH - Small Animal Specialist Hospital for afterhours and emergencies.
See you in 2025! 😸🐶🐇🕊

Happy Friday!

Today we welcomed Fred and George, two baby ringtail possums, into the clinic. Fred and George were brought to us after their mum was sadly hit by a car. This is a reminder to check pouches of deceased marsupials (with gloves on, of course!) in case their young are in need of some help. 😊

Fred and George were placed into the hands of a lovely carer earlier this afternoon, where they will be nursed until they can be released back to their natural habitat.

Their adventurous personalities kept us very well occupied today.

Have a good weekend.
🐾😊

Update: Monty has been reunited with his family! Thank you to everyone that shared and helped get him home!

Update: His name is most likely Monty 😊
Do you recognise this friendly boy??
He was bought into our clinic last night. The phone number registered with DACO doesn't connect. Please share this post so he can find his family.
In the mean time, Practice Manager Jacqui is VERY happy with the giant (slobbery!) cuddles she is receiving from this absolutely gorgeous soul. 🥰

*UPDATED: OWNER FOUND*

Hello Community,

We have had a male cat handed into our clinic. He is Desexed and microchipped. Unfortunately, his microchip details had not been updated and has no information attached.

We have done an assessment on him, and he seems to be older and needs treatment for dehydration and other issues.

In the meantime, he has been offered a bed, food and water. The Council will have to be contacted in 24hours, if no owner comes forward.

If this old man belongs to you, please give us a call on
8272 6077. 📞

In the meantime, he's been offered a bed, food and water.

*UPDATE FOUND*

Hi Hawthorn Community,

One of our Community members is missing her beloved cat named, Maddy. Maddy is a black short hair girl, with a pink collar, is microchipped and was last seen at 7pm last night. Maddy is usually inside at night time, so it's unusual for her to wonder.

Can we please make sure to check our sheds, garages and trees for Maddy. If you have any information, please contact Tracey on 046636699.

Hopefully she comes home soon 🤍

Introducing one of our patients, Max and his close calls! 🐍🐶🏥

Over the course of three months, Max's family found themselves facing two heart-stopping moments that tested their resilience and underscored the importance of their veterinary team and pet insurance.

During a routine walk along the esplanade, Max, a six-year-old black Cavoodle, stumbled upon a 2-meter brown snake coiled under a bush. Despite being on a lead, Max's instincts kicked in, and he pounced on the unsuspecting serpent. The serpent promptly retaliated and wrapped itself around Max. Shocked and panicked, Max's family swiftly intervened, pulling him away from the danger while the snake, also shocked and panicked, quickly slithered away. With adrenaline coursing through their veins, they rushed Max to the Victor Central Vet Clinic, guided by fellow pet owners who had experienced similar scares. Although Max showed no immediate signs of a snake bite, the vet took proactive measures, including installing a central line, to prepare for the worst-case scenario. Thanks to their quick actions and the safety net of pet insurance, Max's family breathed a sigh of relief as they navigated through the ordeal.

In another close call, Max found himself in a precarious situation after ingesting rat bait during a visit to a friend's place in Aldinga. With immediate action, Max's family again raced him to the Adelaide Animal Emergency Centre, where he underwent treatment to counteract the poison. For three weeks, Max's family anxiously monitored his progress, grateful for the support of their veterinary team and the assistance provided by pet insurance.

Through these heart-pounding experiences, Max's family gained a newfound appreciation for the importance of quick thinking, vigilant pet ownership, and the invaluable safety net provided by pet insurance. As Max wagged his tail in recovery, his family couldn't help but reflect on the precious bond they shared and the reassurance of knowing they were prepared for whatever challenges came their way.

Side note: Max has been grounded for the foreseeable future!
