Finally finished my first quilt for my close friend’s new baby!

It is full of mistakes (please don’t zoom in lol) but I’m still super proud of it, I’ve been wanting to get into quilting for a while and I feel like I learned so much on this one! Just ordered fabric for my next one! Have been admiring everyone’s projects on here so thought I’d share mine :)

Does anyone know of a pattern that wraps a star in a star in a star in a star…?
Help/Question
I really liked how this double star came out and it occurred to me that I could just keep going, encasing this star in another and on and on until it’s quilt size. Has anyone done this or seen it done before? I want to envision it…

It was very difficult to photograph by myself so it extends a bit at the top and the bottom, but I’m excited I finished the top! It’s certainly not completely lined up and even, but I’ve accepted that lol.

Dad's Christmas Present- Alice Cooper Quilt

So, my dad is a huge Alice Cooper fan. I don't even know how many shows he's been to, but the shirts included in this are just from the last 20 years or so, and Alice Cooper concerts have been a thing my parents and I have enjoyed as a family since I was a kid. On December 8th, my mom says to me, "Hey, we should make your dad a t-shirt quilt for Christmas." Cue the frantic assembly and ex*****on. We had to work on it at their house, so the whole ordeal involved lots of setting up and breaking down every day before he got home from work. Rearranging the house, hiding the materials/equipment/eventually the quilt, making sure the floor wasn't full of suspicious thread, etc. Dad's off on weekends, and I had some appointments, so we were working on a pretty tight schedule. All said, we got to work on it in 10 sessions between the 8th and the 24th. I had about 60 hours in designing it, cutting the strips, machine piecing the top, and then setting it. Then, mom and I had another combined 64 hours in hand quilting it. I literally finished sewing the binding while he was leaving the grocery store on the way home from work Christmas Eve because he took an hour off work that day and didn't warn us until he'd done it. She managed to throw it in the wash and get it boxed up that night without him catching on. He loved it, which makes me soooooo happy! This is the third quilt I've ever pieced and quilted, and the first one I've ever done like this. I fused all the shirt parts to interfacing and then serged them to make sure they didn't get squirrely. I included my process scribbles because I'm so stupidly proud of this, even if the math doesn't exactly match up to the end result (I lost two inches in the design and then found them while I was putting everything together). Just wanted to share this, because it was so much fun to do, and it was a gift that my dad (who is notoriously hard to shop for because he gets everything he wants for himself) really enjoyed. I hope y'all had a happy holiday season, and that you had as much fun working on your gifts as we had with this one!

taught myself how to use a sewing machine!
Finished Quilts
i have hand pieced/quilted one baby blanket in the past and love the look of quilts but hand piecing was too slow for me to stay interested. after a lot of trial and error, i purchased and taught myself how to use a sewing machine (a brother SM2700). i did all the piecing and binding on my machine though i still hand quilted it. i'm so happy to be able to get through projects faster - i've already started cutting fabric for my next quilt.

Quilt top complete!

This was done as a challenge to improve my accuracy. Worked out around 2000 pieces. Don’t think I will do any more HSTs for a while but really pleased with the final look. Thanks for the encouragement as I went! Really love the backing fabric from Tula Pink that I have chosen. Will post again when I have managed to finish it.

Estate sale find
Help/Question
I found this beautiful top at an estate sale and would like to try to finish it. Does anyone have any ideas of how old it might be? What pattern it is? Any suggestions for washing it? It’s all hand pieced. I love how there’s two different reds and I noticed that in the corners, the original quilter went away from the pattern. I think those things give this very meticulous quilt subtle character. Any recommendations for how to go about finishing it are appreciated!
