I am thrilled to report that Missy, who we cared for after her owner passed away, has officially been adopted! She has settled in beautifully in her new home and has been an absolute treasure. Missy’s new furry sister is delighted to have someone to have a snuggle with, go for a walk or get into some play fighting. The girls are besties already. ❤️

Thank you so much to Jo and Rick for giving Missy a loving, caring home she so deserves. A big thank you to everyone who shared Missy’s story. You have all contributed to this happy ending. How amazing! ❤️

*****UPDATE*****
Wow, what a great response we’ve had to Missy’s story! We couldn’t be more grateful for all reactions, shares and messages. I’m literally in tears. Happy tears!

Missy has already met one potential family and their dog and the initial signs have been very promising. They have taken her to their place for a trial and will keep me posted. I will update everyone soon.

To everyone who was moved by the story and took their time to help us find a new home for Missy, please know that your efforts have just changed that dog’s life. She’s been through so much and now has a chance to be loved and well cared for. From the bottom of my heart: THANK YOU!
Magda
—————————————————-
Hi everyone,
My name is Missy and I’m currently staying with Magda and Steve from Coastal Pet Services because my owner sadly passed away a few weeks ago. I’ve had a pretty rough year so far and we’re all hoping you could help us turn it around for me.

I found myself at the RSPCA shelter early this year and was eventually adopted in May. However, my new owner got unwell shortly after and was in hospital a lot so Magda started visiting, feeding me and taking me for walks. It was really scary when my owner suddenly died at home and nobody knew. I had no food or water for three days before we were found. Then I was left in the backyard for three days because the RSPCA didn’t want to take me back and the family didn’t know what to do with me. When they let Magda know she picked me up and I’ve been in her care since. I can’t stay permanently though. There are already a lot of pets here and even though we all get along, it’s a bit crowded and chaotic at times. I hope you can spread the word and help me find my forever home.

A bit about myself now. I am what you call a mixed breed, I can’t tell you exactly because I don’t remember my parents. From the side I look a lot like a Labrador, my face is a bit like Staffy, size wise I’m in between. According to the RSPCA records I’m about 9 years old. I’m still very active and healthy, but without the puppy energy. I’m very smart and learn quickly. I’m obedient and have very good manners. I do get a little excited when Magda or Steve come home, but once I’ve greeted them, I go and sit on my bed until it’s time to be involved in something exciting like a walk or play in the backyard. I’m really no trouble at all, very quiet actually. In addition to the resident pets here I’ve met a few other dogs over the last few weeks and have been friendly with them, even the ones I met at the vet when we went for a check up. I just sat there very politely. The only time I may react is when they start barking at me or get in my face. I may growl at them a bit in that situation just in case, but won’t do anything silly. I even get along with the cats here!

Walks are my favourite part of the day. When the harness comes out is when you can hear me bark a little, I’m so happy I can’t contain myself! I walk perfectly on a lead, you won’t even feel I’m at the other end, I’m that good. When you stop before crossing the road, I will stop too and you won’t even have to say anything. When I’m off the lead, I’m no trouble either. I constantly check where you are and stay close to make sure we’re both safe.

I think I would suit a wide variety of homes, I’m pretty adaptable and very loving. After the ordeals I’ve gone through I’m hoping to end this year on a positive note. Magda says I really deserve it and keeps cheering me up with treats, especially when I make my sad face. Could you please help me find a place to call my own?

If you are interested in getting to know me, please contact Magda on the number at the top of the page or via Messenger. She will be happy to answer your questions. If you could share this post that would be very helpful too. Thank you so much!

This beautiful girl has been available for adoption for 7 months, but hasn’t had any interest. Anyone looking for a new furry addition to their family? 😻

Just heartbreaking and this poison is still being recommended and sold by vets. 😢 There are now two isoxazoline-related class-action lawsuits in North America — one in Quebec and the other in New Jersey.

I hope they can be adopted together. 🙏

“Most pet cats and dogs in Australia are speyed or castrated before 1 year of age, usually around 5-6 months of age when they are still very much a baby. In shelter environments desexing is performed as young as 6 weeks of age.

Desexing has been advocated as a form of population control, and considered necessary to prevent problems like mammary tumours and pyometra (uterine infections) in intact females, and aggression and benign prostrate growth in intact males.

Evidence is mounting, however, that shows DELAYING desexing is necessary for long-term health.”

The little angel in the photos is Addie, one of my furry clients. It breaks my heart to say that a week ago she was viciously attacked by an uncontrollable Staffy X at Christies Beach while walking with her human mum who was also attacked. Due to the severity of the injuries and despite the efforts of the local vets sadly Addie didn’t make it. Her mum’s wounds were not life threatening, but she’s still in a state of shock after the tragic loss of her little companion.

The Council investigation is still ongoing so I can’t advise on the outcome yet, but I can already say that the owners of the dog who attacked Addie have not offered any compensation to Addie’s mum for the vet bills that are thousands of dollars. The surgery was performed at the local vet and she was still alive at that point. Later that day she was transferred to the emergency vet on Anzac Highway where she lost her battle the following day.

The vet bill for the overnight stay on Anzac Hwy alone is around $4000. What justifies that kind of cost for a little dog in a cage, I really have no idea. I’m sure someone checked on her and she received medication, but $4000? It’s twice as much as an overnight stay at Flinders private hospital in a single room. In addition to that there’s obviously a bill from the local vet, which is also well over a thousand dollars.

I often walk dogs in the area where the incident happened so it could have been me. My client lost her precious companion and is left with vet bills that the owners of the Staffy don’t take any responsibility for. She’s a pensioner so that kind of unexpected expense is a huge financial burden for her. I don’t usually ask for donations, but this is a very special case and close to my heart. If any of my clients or page followers could donate even a small amount I would be very grateful. Literally every dollar counts. The “Go fund me” link is in the comments. Thank you so much. 🙏

Definitely cheaper to hire a dog walker. 😁

An animal rights group is calling for a tough law that sees pet owners fined $4,000 if they don't take their dog for a walk introduced in every state.

Same! 🤣
