Pete vs Bone
Pete had a go at his first raw meaty bone tonight :) A lamb neck piece! To say he loved it was an understatement, he was very enthusiastic with it. I didn't think his tiny little toofies were capable of stripping much meat off the bone at this age.. but was I wrong! He really got stuck in to it and made quite a meal out of it :) Go pete! Love his little paw coming out to hang onto the bone just like an adult dog!
People often ask me if it's okay to give puppies raw meaty bones.. the answer is YES! I don't know how people manage puppies without raw meaty bones, they are the best boredom busters ;). Starting puppies on bones young means that they learn to chew them properly from the beginning, a valuable skill for later in life with ones muzzle is much bigger. As always, we reccomend only non weight bearing bones such as necks, lumbars and ribs and always appropriately sized.. the bigger the better ;)!

Our dear little foster puppy, prickly pete getting into some solids! He gets a bit excited and tries to go snorkeling in it sometimes so has to be watched ;). He definitely loves it though, which is great! Here he is enjoying some ground turkey with goats milk added for extra moisture content :)
Some of you asked me how a dog would eat/chew on a fish head after seeing our last post.. I thought I would take this video to show you :). NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART! Video contains footage of a real dog eating real food ;) watch at your own digression!
Boomer originally hated barramundi heads! As you can see they are now a firm favorite and he really does get quite excited about eating them. He just needed a little encouragement ;). His teeth are getting a lively work too! Boomer is middle aged and there are no dental procedures in sight for him!
Personally I consider fish heads to be quite a safe recreational consumable bone.. the plate shape of the bones and the and cartilenagous nature of the bone makes them great for adults and puppies alike! I always reccomend that bones are consumed under supervision, especially for dogs new to chewing on bones.
