Interesting flower pollinating facts.

Most plants are bisexual meaning they have both male and female sexual parts in the flowers, these can either self pollinate or cross pollinate, for example lily, hibiscus, daisy, rose, and mango.
There are also unisexual flowers, meaning they only have one type of flower male or female, needing both male and female flowers to be visited by pollinators for cross pollination like papaya, watermelon, pumpkin and gourds.

Did you know bees shiver to keep warm?

A beehive inside colony temperature sits around the same temperature that humans do, between 34-36°C. With this, on cold days when we like to have loads of clothes on to keep warm, if we have to open the beehive for checks it’s usually quickly and calmly in cooler temps like 16° as it takes longer for the colony to warm themselves back up. I don’t like opening any hive with temps cooler than that as it affects the bees health and brood rearing (raising baby bees).
Similar to having the heater on in the house and someone opens all the doors and windows and lets the heat out, it takes time for the house to get warm again yes? It’s the same with a beehive.

With this please understand that if I’m in a hive checking, I want them to recover as quickly as possible. Therefore unfortunately, I do not have the time to stop and chat while a hive is open, I’m not trying to be rude, just trying to do what’s best for the colony by getting them checked, shut down and warmed back up as quickly as possible. Chat before and after not an issue, but please understand I’m not trying to be rude.

Apologies all workshops for this month have been cancelled and will be refunded. I no longer have the space to hold workshops at my house.

Unfortunately we will not be at Blake’s Crossing Markets this Sunday due to car issues.

Codys car goes in for transmission service tomorrow, so should be back on the road soon. Slowly fix the main issue with the Ute, petrol pump breakdown pushing metal through the system.

Almost finished round one of replacements, big thanks to Cody for helping paint them all, third coat on the outsides to finish and give the contact edges a light sand.

Dealing with sensory stimulation overload, please understand and I will get back to everyone when I can. Many blessings

Apologies long post about how the bees have helped me gain myself back and to be able to believe in myself again.

12 years ago yesterday. I went in for the first of my skull, neck and brain surgeries for Chiari Malformation.

Chiari is where the cerebellar tonsils descend or herniate through the skull where the spinal cord is and puts pressure on the spinal cord. In which they did a spinal laminectomy of C1 and C2, removed part of my skull that was not replaced, cauterised the cerebellar tonsils from 22mm herniation to back in my skull and inserted a dura patch, extra tissue layer to the lining around the brain.

Chiari can cause many debilitating symptoms, some of these are not just chronic headaches, some get that bad that a wheelchair and many specialists are required.
Think about having your spinal cord and central nervous system crushed, but not by a tumour but by your own brain.

Working with the bees and studying altnerative medicines like Apitherapy, Homeopathy and Aromatherapy have helped me gain confidence, help heal myself without medication that cause side effects which in turn require more medications.

This isn’t a look at me post or give me attention.

It’s a if I can do this… so can you! You are as strong as you believe you can be, take those steps make the changes and do what is right for you.

Believe in yourself!!!!!

MRI are from 2014 prior to second surgery in 2015 where a csf leak from the dura patch was repaired and a titanium plate installed for cerebellar slump (brain had descended again) to hold my brain in place.

Will be unavailable tomorrow due to unfortunate family circumstances for my youngest.

I must offer my apologies for not checking the hives as previously promised. My Ute has been at the mechanic since yesterday and will remain there until Monday. Unfortunately, Cody's car is not an option for transportation as it is not registered and requires a transmission service. I regret any inconvenience this may have caused and will ensure that Cody's car is roadworthy before scheduling the necessary repairs for my Ute.

Finish reviewing Week 4's lectures and complete next week's workbook to prepare for the upcoming exam this afternoon and assignment due on the 5th.

Intense 6 weeks doing Biological Foundations A and B at university.

Hitting the lab next week between bees and lectures, to work on reformulating our ache ease salve to be more inclusive of Apitherapy products, aswell as native Australian essential oils. Testing continues…

Also working timelines to add into the new season for harvesting products from the hive. As depending on uni, we will be trapping pollen where there is sufficient excess so not to affect our bees nutrition, looking into harvesting our own royal jelly and apilarnil, and hopefully testing out some new equipment to bring in another product once the lab is set up for safe extraction to reduce oxygen exposure keeping purity and quality of product (that only I will be managing and handling due to safe work practices).
