I have appreciated having my youngest son, Zac, home on a three-week leave, which was necessitated by insufficient NDIS funding, and he has been assisting me in organising boxes and frames. Cody has also contributed by helping to sort through boxes and frames and preparing the burn lot. I have scheduled hive checks for Friday and weekend and plan to conduct them during the early morning hours when the heat is more manageable. It is essential to ensure that water is readily available for all living creatures over the next few hot days, and it is crucial to provide bees with a means to access water without drowning, such as a floating platform.
Many blessings to all and enjoy the sunshine.

Days are getting warmer which means reptiles are coming out on warm days to soak up the sun. Please be mindful when driving for lizards on or crossing roads please.

Jewel returned home on Friday, and we extend our sincere gratitude to John Coventry and Animal Welfare League SA for providing exceptional care and accommodating our request to include catnip and treats with her highly recommend going through them for your your loved ones.

We would also like to express our appreciation to Bianca at Oakden Medical Centre & Paradise Medical centre for her understanding, accommodating our appointment rescheduling from 3:20pm Tuesday, and waiving the cancellation fee, given our inability to be in two places simultaneously. If required, we can provide a receipt for the payment of $380 made at 3:30pm Tuesday at AWL Edinburgh, which covered the Big Heart Little Friend package, a keepsake bracelet for Cody, who was with Jewel when she passed away, and her cremation certificate, serving as proof.

Thank you for the condolences for Jewel 31/10/2011 - 14/09/2025. UCFC (ultimate cat fight club) name Jeweleus gleutus maximus fatticus catticus, king of the fat cats. A name given by the boys when the three cats would play
Jewel joined our family back in January 2012, two months after I was diagnosed with a 22mm Chiari malformation that left me with limited mobility. From the very beginning, she became my little angel with whiskers, curling up in bed beside me through four years of difficult days, both before and after brain and spinal surgeries. In recent years, she also became Cody’s cuddle companion, supporting him as he managed work challenges and helped me navigate my late-in-life diagnosis of AuDHD. Her presence gave us both comfort and strength, helping me continue to be the mother, beekeeper, and healer I aspired to be.
When Jewel first came to us, her paws and whiskers seemed bigger than she was. Our Labrador, Kane, adored her from day one and kept a gentle watch over her. She soon gained a best friend in Patchy—also known as Princess Patchyfoot or Patchouli—whose mother had taken her in after Jewel’s litter was abandoned. The two of them were inseparable.
Jewel had such a big personality. She was very vocal, announcing proudly whenever she had “caught” her toy mouse or when she was looking for cuddles. She loved everyone, never shy about demanding pats, and delighted in her favorite games—like shuffle cat with the broom, or locking her back paws into the arches of our feet for “puppy pats” (rough pats she insisted on, having grown up alongside a boisterous Labrador).
At nearly 14 years old, Jewel remained the same affectionate, playful, and loving companion we had always known. She filled our lives with warmth and joy, and she will be deeply missed every single day.

A Message from Us
We wanted to take a moment to explain why replies and updates have been a little slower than usual.
On Sunday evening, our beloved cat Jewel peacefully crossed the rainbow bridge. We have been grieving her loss and arranging for her cremation, which has understandably taken some emotional energy and focus.
We have received positive news from our local Member of Parliament and a Senior Concilliation Officer at Consumer and Business services, regarding tenant rights concerns we’ve been facing, and we look forward to exploring this further.
Our ute will be back in the shop again this Friday, which means we’ll be without transport for that day. We’re doing our best to stay on top of apiary visits, especially those further from home base, before then.
Please know that Cody is currently working extra hours at his job and can’t always be available to assist, and while I do my best, I’m not an octopus (or much to my dissapointment able to teleport!)—and my health challenges sometimes set me back despite my best intentions.
On the brighter side of things, we’re really looking forward to an upcoming bee talk and small honey extraction demonstration at the community centre. Slowly but surely, we’re unburying the equipment needed after unpacking and moving the caravan.
We ask for your patience and understanding as we navigate this busy and emotional time. Thank you for your ongoing support—it truly means the world.

Please be advised that the driveway will be temporarily inaccessible during the tree removal process. The caravan has been relocated to prevent damage, and we kindly request that you refrain from parking in the designated area to avoid potential damage to vehicles while the tree is being removed. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in this matter.

Rewriting HACCP’s per individual events not one to cover all outside honey extractions. To include any additional contamination risks with extraction demonstrations including outside influences (like sawdust from tree cutting while loading equipment), transportation and area the demonstration is held. Taking precautions and sticking to food safety regulations. Risk management plans were already done per individual event anyway.

Unavailable today as I received an sms at 12:20pm that the tree removal people will be here in the morning (after they turned up unannounced friday and needed caravan moved then, I was not included in the arborist coming out or when tree removal was happening, this was also after checking with mr man that turned up unannounced thursday after emergency repair request for the gutter flooding into roof space was cancelled and phone call with some higher up lady later that day, who told me this week some time and everything is dependant on weather), and need the driveway cleared.

In saying that I am removing everything from the caravan that was packed in there, for the now not happening airconditioner to be removed and wall blocked up and no install date on new one, registering the caravan, sorting it to be roadworthy, have someone help move and host the van until all maintenance has been completed and goddess only knows how long that will take Community Housing Limited seeing they can’t even give 48hours written notice of maintenance or follow up after meeting on the 8th about this exact thing happening. It will be moved this evening for the morning.
