🎆🎇 PET SAFETY TIPS DURING FIREWORKS 🎇🎆

Fireworks can be a source of anxiety for many animals, but with a little preparation, you can make them feel safe and secure.

🐾 Create a safe space: Set up a quiet, cosy area in your home where your pet can retreat to. Use their favourite bed, blankets and toys to make it comforting.

🐾 Soothing Sounds: Play calming music or have the TV playing in the background to help drown out the noise of fireworks.

🐾 Stay Close: If possible, stay home with your pet. Your presence can be incredibly calming.

🐾 Secure the House: Close windows, doors and curtains to muffle the sound and block flashes of light.

🐾 Distract with treats or toys: Keeping them distracted with long lasting chews or interactive toys is handy.

🐾 Leash up outside: If you need to take your dog out, ensure you keep a lead on. Fireworks can spook our pets, and even the calmest animals may bolt.

🐾 Medications: If all of the above doesn’t work, it’s okay, sometimes we need a little extra something to calm even ourselves down. If your pet does have extreme anxiety, please book an appointment to chat to any of our friendly Vets about medications to ease some of that anxiety.

🎊🍾 HILLS VET CHRISTMAS PARTY🎉🎈

On Sunday we had our staff Christmas party and we traded in our instruments, gloves and stethoscopes for paintbrushes and mimosas.

We had such a fun time at Pinot & Picasso and in true Veterinary fashion, we got to paint our pets🐱🐶🐰 Our competition revealed who may be hanging up their scrubs and switching to a paint covered apron instead:

🥇1st place - Jaime painting Lila
🥈2nd place - Dannie painting Piggy
🥉3rd place - Lisa painting Shay

We hope you enjoy these rare photos of the team, not covered in fur.

💊💊 MEDICATION ORDERING 💊💊

This is your friendly reminder that if your pet is on regular medication and you think you may need it over this holiday period, please call us before the end of this week to organise all prescriptions.

Most medications we need to order in through external companies which shut over the holiday period, so to ensure you don’t get stuck please give us a call on 8278 4147 to organise this with one of our friendly staff members.

🎄🎄EARLY CLOSURE FRIDAY🎄🎄

It’s that time of year again when everyone comes out for the Blackwood Christmas Pageant. This does mean that we will be closing early this Friday, at 5pm due to the lack of road access to the clinic.

PawPrints After Hours will be open as usual from 8pm within our clinic and we will be re-opening Saturday morning at 9am.

🦷🪥DENTAL CARE🪥🦷

We know how important dental health is for us, so why should it be any different for our pets? Here are some effective ways to keep their dental health in good condition:

🦷 Regular brushing - lot of people are shocked when I bring up brushing their pets teeth but it makes sense - their teeth are just like ours. There are a multitude of different toothbrushes designed for our pets as well as animal toothpaste (please never human toothpaste!). Ideally, their teeth should be brushed daily but a few times a week can make a difference.

🦷 Dental chews - specifically designed chews help reduce plaque and tartar build up. Both Greenies and Veggiedent have the Veterinary Oral Health Council tick of approval and are stocked here in clinic.

🦷 Specialised diets - The Hills t/d dental care kibble is designed to help remove plaque and freshen your pets breath. The large kibble size, shape and texture assist with cleaning the teeth to the gum line to promote healthy gums and teeth.

🦷 Dental additives - PlaqueOff powder for dogs and cats is a completely natural product that has been clinically proven to reduce bad breath, plaque and tartar. This product also has the Veterinary Oral Health Council tick of approval. Please feel free to chat to any of our helpful staff about this product

🦷🪥August is dental month 🦷🪥

It’s dental month! and you know what that means - its time to chat about your pets smelly breath!

Dental disease can not only be painful, but can also affect important organs like the heart, liver and kidneys (exactly the same as us).

A simple check with one of our friendly vets can help determine if this is a problem for your pet. So if their breath is causing you to pull a face, they’re having trouble eating or their teeth are looking brown please give us a call🦷🦷

P.S. keep an eye out for our dental home care options, in clinic offers & tips and tricks throughout this month
