🦠 Important Update on Parvovirus Testing 🐾

Dear pet parents,

We know how concerning it can be if your dog is showing symptoms of illness, and we understand you’re eager for answers. If your dog has tested negative for Parvovirus, it’s important to note that a negative test result doesn’t necessarily mean your pet is in the clear.

Parvo is a tricky virus, and while the test is an important tool, there’s still a chance your dog could develop the illness after testing negative. Some cases may take time to show up in the test, or there may be other factors at play, like early-stage infection or a need for additional diagnostic work.

If your dog is showing signs of illness such as vomiting, diarrhea, or lethargy, even after a negative test, please continue to monitor them closely and reach out to us for further guidance.

We’re here to help ensure your dog gets the care they need during this uncertain time. Your pet’s health and safety are our top priorities.

Thank you for your understanding 🐕💙

As most of you are aware, we have a Parvo outbreak in our area!

Canine parvovirus (often called “parvo”) is a highly contagious and serious disease that affects dogs, particularly puppies and unvaccinated adults. Here’s what you need to know to protect your furry friend:

What Is Parvo?

Parvo is a virus that attacks the gastrointestinal system, causing severe illness. The virus is extremely resilient, surviving on surfaces for months if not properly disinfected.

How Does It Spread?

Parvo is transmitted through:
• Direct contact with infected dogs or their f***s.
• Indirect contact with contaminated surfaces, such as food bowls, leashes, or even your shoes.

Common Symptoms:
• Severe vomiting
• Bloody, foul-smelling diarrhoea
• Extreme lethargy
• Loss of appetite
• Dehydration
If you notice these signs, seek veterinary care immediately—parvo progresses rapidly and can be fatal without prompt treatment.

Prevention Tips:
1. Vaccinate on Schedule: Puppies should start their parvo vaccine series at 6–8 weeks old, with boosters every 3–4 weeks until 16–20 weeks. Adults require regular boosters.
2. Limit Exposure: do not take your dog to dog parks and public areas until your puppy is fully vaccinated.
3. Practice Good Hygiene: Disinfect any areas where infected dogs may have been using veterinary-grade cleaners.

Why Vaccination Matters

Vaccination is the most effective way to protect your dog from parvo. It’s a simple step that can save your pet’s life.

Happy Purrday in heaven, Mo Mo.

The clinic feels heavy without your presence, we miss you dearly, the clients miss you…many tears have been shed.

💔💔💔💔💔
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we let you, our beloved clients and fans, know that a heartbreaking decision was made yesterday to let our distinguished gentleman, Mr. Mozart—Mo Mo, Amadeus, counter warmer, or simply MOZART—go to his forever peace to sleep, play, and do whatever he wants.

Mozart came to MRVC 12 years ago as a rescue kitten. Anyone who knows this incredible boy knows that he was the greeter of all creatures great and small, and their owners who accompanied them. He always received the smooches and pats he adored! When we had the sad time of euthanasias coming into the clinic…he just knew how to comfort and be there for our clients. He also knew how to ignore dogs, and would simply turn his back in disgust. We'll miss him trying to steal treats and eating holes in bags not placed high enough.

Mo Mo, you were the best comforter and the smoothest gentleman cat to roam this earth. Wanting tasty treats from vets' and nurses' lunches and lap sitting to gain said treats. Always wanting a snuggle. If you locked eye contact while on reception—incoming Mozart for some lap love.

Your life being cut short is cruel, and we all love you so very much. We hope you could feel the circle of love around you as we said our final farewell. We’d never have been allowed as much time as we needed with you here. God speed, Mozart, we’ll all see you on the other side.
A special thank you to our vets for going above and beyond as always.

Please be kind to our team as we process this deep loss.

All our love,
MRVC

🐾Parasites are more than just a nuisance—they can cause serious health issues for our beloved pets. At Midway Road Veterinary Clinic, we want to help you stay informed about the common parasites that can affect your furry family members and how you can protect them year-round.

🦠 Internal Parasites: Who’s Living Inside?
The most common internal parasites in cats and dogs include:

• Roundworms, Hookworms, Whipworms: These worms can cause digestive issues and more serious complications. They are usually detected through a stool sample at your vet’s office.
• Tapeworms: These parasites can be spotted by finding small segments (resembling grains of rice) around your pet’s a**s or in their stool.
• Heartworm: A serious and potentially fatal parasite, heartworm is spread by mosquitoes and requires a specific blood test for diagnosis.

🪲 External Parasites: Who’s Living Outside?
Fleas, ticks, and mites are common external parasites that live in your pet’s fur. These pests can cause skin irritation, allergic reactions, and even spread diseases.

🔍 How Do You Know if Your Pet Has Parasites?

• Stool samples can reveal intestinal worms like roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms.
• Visual clues: You may notice tapeworm segments around your pet’s a**s or in their bedding.
• Heartworm testing: Regular blood tests are the only way to detect heartworms early, preventing severe health problems.

📅 When Are Parasites a Problem?
Parasites are a year-round concern, but they thrive in warmer weather, making prevention particularly important during spring and summer. However, staying on top of prevention throughout the year is key to keeping your pet healthy.

🛡 What Can You Do to Protect Your Pet?

• Regular deworming: Your pet should be treated for internal parasites on a regular schedule, as recommended by your vet.
• External parasite control: Flea, tick, and mite prevention should be used consistently, with extra attention during warmer months when these parasites are most active.

🩺How Can Midway Road Veterinary Clinic Help?
We offer a comprehensive selection of parasite prevention products tailored to your pet’s specific needs. Whether it’s deworming, flea treatments, or heartworm prevention, our team can recommend the best options to keep your pet protected. Plus, we’re always running specials, so stop by and chat with us!

Your pet’s health is our priority. Let’s work together to keep them safe from parasites! 🐕🐈

Did someone say… double trouble? 🐱🐱
What kind of vet clinic would we be if we didn’t post about everyone’s favourite boys first? Even before the vets and nurses? The world obviously revolves around them, doesn’t it?

Who are we?
Jagger and Mozart, Midway’s long term resident clinic cats.

How long have you been in the veterinary industry?
Jagger, 13 years and Mozart 12 years.

What made you both become clinic cats?
We were both too purrrrfect for our old owners so they decided to leave us here with everyone instead.

What is your favourite animal?
Jagger: prefers pigeons or any other type of bird
Mozart: chicken breast

We hope everyone enjoys some of our best selfies ❤️

A couple of weeks back 3 of our fabulous nurses Annabel, Reynal & Nat attended the Veterinary Nurses Council of Australia Inc. (VNCA) conference which was held here in Adelaide this year.

It was a wonderful conference with some incredible keynote speakers from overseas and a great opportunity for networking and chatting with suppliers.
