⚠ Kennel Cough Outbreak ⚠

Kennel cough is a highly contagious respiratory condition that affects dogs of all breeds and ages. It is primarily spread through airborne particles when an infected dog coughs or sneezes. It can also be transmitted through direct contact, such as sharing food and water bowls, toys, or close physical interaction. 🦠

Common symptoms of kennel cough can vary in severity and may include:
- A persistent, dry, hacking cough (often described as sounding like the dog is trying to clear its throat)
- Retching or dry heaving
- Sneezing
- Nasal discharge
- Lethargy or reduced activity
- Loss of appetite

If your dog is exhibiting any of these symptoms, we recommend keeping them at home and minimizing contact with other dogs. This helps prevent the spread of infection within the community.
Please contact your regular Vets4Pets as soon as possible to discuss appropriate treatment and care. 📞

To help protect your dog, ensure their vaccinations are up to date, especially the annual kennel cough (Bordetella) vaccine, which can significantly reduce the risk and severity of the illness. 💉

During periods of increased transmission, we also advise:
- Avoiding dog parks and group gatherings ❌
- Not using communal water bowls or shared toys in public spaces

We understand how concerning it can be when your pet is unwell. By taking these proactive steps, you're helping to keep your dog – and the wider dog community – safe and healthy. 😌

✌ We're seeing double - Brothers Hugo & George 😎😋

Hugo and George, two adorable dachshund brothers, were in at Northgate Vets4Pets for their desexing procedures. Although they belong to different family members, these two are inseparable — and when they’re together, it’s usually a whirlwind of energy until one of them finally collapses! 🌪️💤

Before surgery, the boys had to be kept apart, but once in recovery, they were happily reunited. We’re pleased to report there were no post-op tornadoes this time — just two very relaxed sausages enjoying each other’s company (and the lingering effects of anaesthesia 😴🌭).

Their families were amazed at how calm and quiet they were — a rare sight for these two! Wishing Hugo and George a smooth recovery and a quick return to their playful, mischievous selves. 💕🐶

VetPartners is delighted to announce that the Veterinary Nurses’ Council of Australia 2025 Student Vet Nurse/Technologist of the Year is one of our own: Shian Forgione from Vets4Pets in Adelaide’s Mawson Lakes!

Shian, who has worked at Vets4Pets for several years while completing her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing, is much loved for her can-do attitude and positive nature, as well as her ability to build strong relationships with clients.

“Nothing is too much or too hard for Shian. She consistently and without hesitation will give 110 per cent and go out of her way to help others,” says Vets4Pets Managing Veterinarian Dr Hannah Smart, who nominated Shian for the prestigious award.

“She works with each patient using a Fear Free™ approach, designed to minimise the stress for all involved and provide the best possible outcome for the client-animal bond.”

Shian also set up and runs two Puppy Preschool classes at the clinic each week, and after obtaining her license to provide radioactive iodine therapy to cats with hyperthyroidism last year she has taken on the role of organising the clinic’s treatment schedule.

“None of this would be possible without her tireless efforts,” says Hannah. “Shian has already demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities. She always takes the opportunity to learn and grow and I’m excited to see what levels she takes her career to next.”

💉 Brave girl Layla! 🐾
Layla the Rottie came in to see Dr. Brendan for her general health check—and she was such a superstar for her blood test! 🌟 Of course, she made sure to collect plenty of treats (and cuddles) as her reward 🐶💖
