With Halloween over, please make sure to remove web decorations, such as synthetic spider webs as they can pose serious risks to wildlife and birds. These decorations can cause entanglement, ingestion of non-biodegradable materials, and collisions with shiny or reflective objects, leading to injury or death. By making thoughtful choices, we can enjoy festive decorations without harming wildlife

Attention Pet Parents: Beware of Grass Seed Hazards!

As we enjoy the warmer weather, grass seeds can pose a hidden danger to our furry friends. These tiny, sharp seeds can easily become lodged in your pet's fur, eyes, ears, or even
paws, leading to painful infections or injuries.

Common areas where grass seeds can cause harm include:
-Paws: Seeds can get stuck between toes and work their way into the skin, causing infections.
-Ears: Seeds can travel into the ear canal, causing pain, irritation, or even ruptured eardrums.
-Eyes: If a seed gets in the eye, it can lead to redness, discharge, or infection.
-Nose: Dogs may inhale seeds, which can cause respiratory distress or lung infections.

Signs of Grass Seed Injury:
-Limping or favoring a limb
-Excessive scratching or shaking of the head
-Red, swollen eyes or ears
-Discharge from the eyes, nose, or ears
-Signs of discomfort or pain

Prevention Tips:
-After walks, thoroughly check your pet’s fur, paws, and ears for any grass seeds.
-Trim long fur to reduce the likelihood of seeds getting trapped.

If you notice any of these symptoms or suspect your pet may have a grass seed lodged in their body, seek veterinary attention right away. We're here to help keep your pets safe and comfortable this season!

Apricot had 2 grass seeds removed today, one from her ear and another from the foot. She was so brave 💜💜

HEAT STROKE: ☀️☀️
As temperatures rise, it's essential to keep our furry friends safe from heat-related issues, particularly heatstroke. Here are some tips to ensure your pet stays cool and healthy:

Things to Avoid:
1. Hot Pavement: Avoid walking on hot surfaces. Test the pavement with your hand—if it's too hot for you, it's too hot for your pet.
2. Leaving Pets in Cars: Never leave your pet in a parked car, even with windows cracked, as temperatures can rise quickly.
3. Walking During Peak Heat: Limit outdoor activities to early morning or late evening when temperatures are cooler.
4. Neglecting Hydration: Always provide fresh water and encourage your pet to drink regularly.
5. Overexertion: Avoid strenuous activities during hot weather, especially for breeds prone to heat sensitivity.

What to Do if You Suspect Heatstroke:
1. Move to a Cooler Area: Get your pet indoors or to a shaded spot immediately.
2. Provide Water: Offer small amounts of cool (not icy) water to drink.
3. Use Cool Towels: Apply cool, wet towels to their fur, focusing on the belly, neck, and paws.
4. Fan Them: Use a fan to help lower their body temperature if possible.
5. Seek Veterinary Care: Contact your vet right away, even if your pet seems to improve, as internal damage can occur.

Keeping these tips in mind can help ensure your pet stays safe and healthy during warmer weather.

MEDIAL LUXATING PATELLAR:
Gorgeous Tallulah came in for a Medial Luxating Patellar procedure. A full exam and X-rays were done assess severity.

Patellar luxation occurs when the kneecap dislocates, causing pain and mobility issues. The most common sign of this is limping or lameness when your dog walks.

With surgery, Tallulah is expected to regain her mobility and enjoy her activities again. However, early intervention is key, so consult your vet if you notice signs of discomfort in your dog’s mobility!
She’s so photogenic so here are before and after photos 🥹🫶
