The City of Albany is urging dog owners to take stronger responsibility for their pets following a spate of concerning dog attacks highlighted by the findings of a significant dog attack in McKail.

From 1 July to 31 August 2024, 25 dog attacks were reported across Albany, including attacks on people, with seven more attacks recorded in just the first few weeks of October.

As Albany’s population grows and more people move into higher-density living areas, the importance of responsible dog ownership is more critical than ever.

Ensuring pets are properly contained and secured at all times is essential under the Dog Act, and failure to do so could result in significant legal and financial consequences.

Unfortunately we have been affected by the power outage. We will be closing up now as we will have no lights and will be unable to provide an after hours service overnight tonight. We are so sorry for the inconvenience. If you have an emergency please try one of the other Vets in town as they may not be affected by the power outage.

We have recently seen several confirmed cases of parvovirus and are aware there have been other cases in the Great Southern Region. Parvovirus is a highly contagious viral infection that can result in severe and often fatal gastrointestinal disease, primarily affecting puppies and unvaccinated dogs. It is spread by direct contact with an affected dog or contact with a surface that the affected dog has contaminated and can survive for long periods of time in the environment.

Vaccination is by far and away the best way to prevent disease. It is extremely important that your dog is up to date with their vaccinations, particularly puppies who may not have had all their primary vaccinations and are the most vulnerable.

Please contact Dog Rock Vet on 9842 2595 if you need to make an appointment or want to check the vaccination status of your four legged family members!
