Happy New Year everyone 🤩

NEW YEARS EVE is HERE and so are the FIREWORKS!
Fireworks in Albany are 9pm and Midnight.

Live in the vicinity of fireworks?
While not all dogs are phased by fireworks, for those that are, or if you have a puppy or a dog whose never experienced fireworks before, here’s some important tips to help you be prepared:

Be there for your dog!

Be mindful of your dog’s and other pet’s needs by making their SAFETY and COMFORT a priority for New Years Eve fireworks.
Fireworks sounds can travel over a large area depending on the weather eg clear skies, cloud cover, wind direction.
Fireworks may only last a few minutes but can have a negative, long-lasting impact on the emotional wellbeing of puppies & dogs of all ages. Senior dogs and other pets may become more anxious about these as they age.

🐾 NEVER leave puppies or anxious pets
outdoors or at home alone.
🐾 Ensure your pet can choose and access
areas in the home that help them feel safe.
🐾 Provide gentle reassurance if your pet
wants to be close to you.
🐾 Provide calming supplements that you
know work for your dog or medications as
prescribed.
🐾 Have other household sounds on early to
mask the noise such as tv, dishwasher or
play calming music.
🐾 Keep doors and windows & blinds shut to
help reduce noise and if fireworks lights
can be seen.
🐾 Take them for a good walk with plenty of
long sniffing opportunities in the early
evening.
🐾 Provide food activities or games that your
dog enjoys prior to fireworks starting.
🐾 Consider taking your dog out of town for
two special car rides if you live in close
proximity to the Albany foreshore (I have
thoughtful, caring clients who do just that).
