🍀Lucky, is a gelding that was sold through us to a one of our lucky current customers at the time. He’s currently back in for a bit of a turn up on his cues and some suppling work. His owner has owned him for 12months. She does not own an arena so she floats out to arenas around her busy working life and other commitments.
In this quick video, I’m engaging his hip in his upwards and downwards transition. Keeping the bend on the circle with his body making sure he’s coming up in this withers staying soft in the ribs and yielding to the bridle softly.
The first week I noticed he was very calm and happy to work, but he was feeling a little ridged, pushing his weight down on the front end and heavy in the bridle and was very ruff to ride in the lope, he also was stumbling and feeling weak in the hind from not using himself enough.
This is second week in and he is feeling much more engaged, stronger all round and his lope is a little smoother to ride, right back to the horse she originally bought!

💓Regi 💓 this lovely mare belongs to a weekend rider who is enjoying the journey of young horses while heading to Adult riders and English comps,
She has previously come in for a good 6 weeks and now comes in once in a while for tune ups while her owner works in Melbourne.
Why is this good? This helps me check in and feel where this horse is up to, and find tune some aids. This also helps to continue the lesson with the owner and instruct what work best for that horse and how to keep progressing her education. It’s also great if a show is coming up on the weekend to keep some form of fitness and mental preparation.
When I look at this mares conformation in the paddock or tied up, she has a long low neck on her. So naturally she wants to carry it long and low, (perfect if she was a Reiner) however this has been a small struggle to get the collection up in the bridle and having her carry herself, the heaviness the owner had been feeling was coursing her to rush through her transition and be on the front end. This was the main focus while she was in for the week. We set realistic goals with a weekend horse and this horse retains its training well.
I practiced many downwards and upwards transition, you can see the first downwards transition was alittle ridged as I made a small correction because she was starting to push on my hands, however the second was much better. For a horse that doesn’t do many walk to canter transition she was a quick learner and can only be achieved once a horse learns to carry itself in an efficiently posture while the rider cues the transition.
I’ll add here the owner has done a great job getting this horse out and about a keeping up with regular lessons!
