Established in 2023, Allowed to Grow Old (ATGO) is a registered charitable foundation that supports selected animal welfare activities across Australia. ๐Ÿพ And of course, those who have unfairly lost their places as beloved pets. We're here to educate humans about the lifetime commitment animals require. To rescue and rehome animals who are in critical need of care, and to support other organisations whoa re working towards the same goals as us.

Our incredible and inspiring has just returned from a huge 7 weeks, working on the front line of the horrific bushfires in regional Victoria. Dr Audrey led volunteer teams of vets, vet nurses, and emergency response personnel, to treat badly injured wildlife in the aftermath of the fires.

Despite having had five years since the Black Summer Bushfires to prepare for future natural disasters, sadly the sector is still significantly under-resourced to respond to events of this scale. If you, or somebody you know is in a position to help, we are actively seeking corporate and philanthropic partners who are interested in making a real difference for native wildlife during times of crisis. ๐Ÿ’š

In light of World Wildlife Day, we wanted to share a story on 3 sweet Brushtail Possums ๐Ÿงก

Here at Allowed to Grow Old we have set up many animal boxes high in trees, making our home base a wonderful option for soft releases.

Sydney Wildlife (Sydney Metropolitan Wildlife Services) contacted us about a soft release for these 3 cuties, as they had been in care since they were young. One was found after its mother had been hit by a car, another was found by a member of the public on the ground without its mother & the last one came in with its sick mother. SWR volunteers worked very hard to care for these small babies (weighing 55g-65g).

We are proud to have the facilities to allow these possums to be released in a safe & stable environment, giving them every chance to succeed.
