Granulosa thecal cell tumours are a tumour of the o***y. They stop mares from cycling properly and can make them show aggressive or stallion like behaviour.

This is one we successfully removed recently, and the mare will be back next year to breed once her remaining o***y starts cycling again

We will not be accepting any mares to start a new cycle from the end of February, so please get organised ASAP if you still want to breed this year 🐴

Stomach ulcers affect over 60% of performance horses, and over 90% of racehorses - do you know what your horse’s stomach looks like?
There is only one way to know for sure. We have scoped a lot of β€˜normal’ looking horses that end up being full of ulcers

Our next scoping day will be held on the 30th of January at our clinic. Randlab

Mares are one of the few species that are not able to have twins
Conceiving twins is relatively common, and is detected at the early (14-16 day) scan. This video shows us manually reducing a twin, to allow the other embryo to go ahead and develop normally

About Thunderbolt Equine Veterinary Services?

We are very proud to provide a 100% equine veterinary practice in the New England region. Thunderbolt Equine is a completely mobile practice servicing the area from Bendemeer to Glen Innes, and Bundarra to Ebor.

Equine veterinarian Calum Paltridge is returning home to the New England after several years working in top equine clinics in Queensland and Victoria, and is very happy to be able to provide this service to the horse owners of the region. Joining him is his partner Emilie Faucillon, a qualified equine veterinary nurse who brings a wealth of knowledge from working on several thoroughbred breeding farms and in many world famous equine hospitals.

We have access to the latest in mobile equipments including a portable horse crush, digital x-ray, ultrasound and endoscopy, meaning we can provide a full service at your property.
