We are delighted to share this beautiful picture of 'Epic' and her owner Brittany. Epic was diagnosed with severe inflammatory bowel disease last year and she has been a real heart-warming success story. 🥰

Epic had multiple colic surgeries in early 2024 with severe post-operative weight loss, she was then presented to AEH in June. 🏥

On admission, she weighed 422kg and was a shadow of her former self. Following diagnosis and treatment, she went on a long road of recovery. 🩺

She looks fantastic now, weighing 545kg, very much in part to caring, diligent management at home by Brittany. 👌

Medicine Fellow Dr Ana Maria Silva and 'Xanadu' 👩‍⚕️🐴

We were pleased to see beautiful Morgan horse Xanadu back at AEH for a check up after she was managed for colitis over Christmas. She had severe protein loss from thickened, inflamed large intestine. She has responded well to medical management. 🩺🏥

Dr Ana Maria will finish at AEH this week and return to Sycamore Lodge in Ireland for the Northern Hemisphere breeding season. 🇮🇪

We are thrilled to welcome our new interns for the next 12 months, Dr Evie Lewis & Dr Ruby Crofts! 🏥

👩‍⚕️ Evie graduated from the University of Nottingham in December 2024. During this time she has completed externships at multiple UK equine hospitals. She has a keen interest in surgery and stud work and looks forward to developing skills across all areas of equine practice.

👩‍⚕️ Ruby graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2024. During her study, she had a strong interest in performance and sports medicine and completed placements with Racing Victoria and FEI vets. This included some time at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington and Victoria during the Spring Racing Carnival. She hopes to gain expertise in all areas of equine practice and looks forward to working with thoroughbred athletes.

We’re excited to have you both on board and watch you expand your skillset during the internship. 🤩

Here’s a bird's-eye view of our beautiful facility in Avenel. 🏥

We have undertaken extensive improvements to our facilities, which includes the addition of a new state-of-art surgical facility, a purpose-built laboratory, 4 separate areas to stable horses and trot up/lunge areas. The new surgical facility enables us to offer a dedicated 24/7 surgical service. 🐴

We are lucky enough to have a purpose-built facility that is designed for efficiency, but more importantly designed for horse safety from a physical and biosecurity standpoint. 🤩

Annie is off to Hagyard Equine Medical Institute Kentucky in January to begin an Internal Medicine Fellowship. 🐎🩺
