Bairnsdale Horse Centre, Bairnsdale Stockfeeds & Firewood and Gunsport trading Bairnsdale have jumped in to help us reach the clinics fundraising goal of $300. We are half way there and it’s not even midday.

Get behind our farmers, chuck on a flanno and donate $5 in support of our local farming community. Whether it’s beef, dairy, sheep or vegetables, farming is huge part of the East Gippsland community and these hard working lovers of the land and their livestock deserve all the support we can give.

It's 'Flanno for a Farmer' Day!!
Our local vet Meg from Bairnsdale Animal Hospital - Eastwood Vets has jumped on to fundraise for Farm Angels previously Drought Angels.

Pop on your flanno and let's support Meg in reaching her goal.
We will donate $10 from every Flanno sold instore today and tomorrow.
Available in Mens, Ladies and Kids. Perfect gift idea for the Dad in your life this Father's Day.

Another great way to enrich your babies while they’re home alone!
Great for:
1. Providing relief for teething and chewing issues.
2. Distracts from separation anxiety and boredom causing destruction.
3. Help reduce boredom like behaviours. Eg digging and barking.
4. Aid Crate training: placed into their crate to associate the crate with reward.
5. Weight management - low calorie options instead of treats but still getting the satisfaction.

These can be filled with your dogs current diet or low calorie treats such as suitable fruit and Veggies. Kongs are designed to encourage chewing to help promote dental health and satisfy the chew drive . Kong products are available in a range of sizes and shapes to suit every dog.

Alternative brands are also a great option.

Is your dog alone at home during the day? Are they potentially destructive when you’re out of home?
Perhaps your doggy needs some more enrichment!
During these cold days, while our dogs are inside in the warm, it is a perfect time to implement the following enrichment plan.
Today let’s talk frozen lick bowls!
1. Place your dog’s food into their food bowl, a slow feeder bowl will have the best effect.
2. Boil the kettle and add to the kibble - watch it grow in size! (Be sure to include this enrichment as a small meal and reduce their meals according to how much kibble is used).
3. Place in the freezer, overnight you will have yourself a frozen lick bowl that, depending on size, can keep your dog entertained for up to an hour!
4. Once your doggy has gotten used to these lick bowls, you can slowly add (safe) food items for your dog and monitor for any reactions.
This is a great way to reduce separation anxiety when you leave the home and to keep your socks and furniture from being eaten!

Keep your eyes peeled for more enrichment ideas coming!

Resting in peace, Bruce 3/02/2015 - 14/07/2024

Every now and then a dog comes along that is just different to the rest. Special, I suppose you could say. From the day we met Bruce he’s been one of the special ones. We encounter thousands of pets every year so to stand out for our vets and nurses as one of the ‘special few’. They have been doing a few things right (and a couple of things wrong - otherwise we wouldn’t know them that well).

Bruce, had all of these things in spades. Bruce, was a 9 year old Bulldog but he genuinely thought he was human. He would waddle into the consult room and promptly take a seat in the provided ‘owners chairs’, when he would sit whilst observing the exchange between Bill and the consulting vet over his most recent health complaint. When the conversation was done and Bill seemed ready to head off, Bruce would pop down out of his chair and waddle right back out, stopping at reception for his usual reward.

He also had the temperament of an angel, it didn’t matter what we were doing with Bruce on one of his regular vet visits he was obliging. From taking bloods to some pretty major surgeries (and everything in between), Bruce was perfectly behaved every visit. All it took was a sausage roll when he got home for all the days insults to be forgiven as forgotten.

Unfortunately, on the weekend, Bruce died suddenly at home overnight. We don’t know what really happened and it has come as a real shock to his owners and our team.

Rest easy Brucey, enjoy all the sausage rolls you want now, we will never hassle mum and dad about your weight again.
Our thoughts are with his family as they deal with the loss of their beautiful boy.

A well overdue Eastwood Vets update.

It has been very busy first half of 2024 at Eastwood Vets and we haven’t had the chance to update you on some of the recent changes.

The good news –
- January saw Dr. Kristy return from maternity leave after having her second beautiful baby boy. It was great to have Kristy back in the mix as she is much loved by our team, clients and her patients.
- March saw the five year anniversary of Eastwood Vets as you know it today. Its been a crazy time in the world and has posed some unique challenges. We are currently gearing up for the next 5yrs so keep on the look out for some exciting things we are working on at the minute.
- April saw a new team member join us, Dr. Ellen. Ellen hales from NSW originally and is currently spending her weeks between Eastwood Vets and her existing Job in Leongatha. In April we also had an previous nurse return to our ranks in nurse Jaz. We look forward to everyone meeting both Ellen and Jaz. We hope you love them as much as we do.

In less good news –
- April saw our first OG leave the team in nurse Debbie. Deb headed off around Australia to do some much overdue sight-seeing. We wish Debbie all the best for her retirement, she deserves it.
- May also saw Sonja depart the team for a bit of a change of pace.

We wish both Debbie and Sonja all the best. They were both long standing employees of Eastwood Vets and previously with Andrew as Bairnsdale Animal Hospital. They leave big shoes to fill and will be very missed by the team and our clients alike.

Finally, after returning in January, June saw the departure of another of our favourites. Dr Kristy has (hopefully temporarily) chosen a bit of a career change in order to better balance the challenges of being a working mum. Kristy has taken on a position as one of the local government veterinarians. We hope she enjoys the new role, and that it is good fit for her and her young family. We look forward to continuing to work with Kristy in a slightly different way. Fingers crossed she returns to the team when the time is right.

🐾🐾🐾 PAWGUST UPDATE 🐾🐾🐾
We are very Proud to announce that we raised a massive ONE THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED AND NINE DOLLARS, towards pawgust this year. As a team we walked 776 kilometres! Rain hail or shine our team walked each day. ☔️☀️

We would like to thank everyone that showed their support by taking part in pawgust themselves or donating.
Again we did this to raise awareness and help with funds for Guide dogs Australia.

Some pretty faces and petty views we have captured on our walks recently.
So far as a Team we have walked 535km, I wonder we can make it to 600km!

Don’t forget to donate, we are still trying to reach our goal before the end of the month.
