Things don't always run smoothly moving bees at night. We had a tyre blow out on the bee trailer on the Calder Hwy just out of Ouyen. Mechanical issues always add a level of stress when you have hives loaded. The bees were also a little defensive from being on canola and with some unsettled weather. Met an awesome bloke in Ouyen who had what we needed for the tyre replacement.

We are currently taking expressions of interest from young people aged 10 - 18 yrs to participate in the range of open hive experiences and mentoring at the HiveMind Community Apiary during Spring and summer.

Sessions will be held on Sunday afternoons between 2pm-4pm. *Please note, children aged 10 -12years must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Just completed National AgVet Chemical Training at TAFE. Provided an excellent understanding of chemical drift, sensitive uses and impacts on livestock, including honeybees used for pollination services. Valuable knowledge and understanding gained as we consider future treatments and impacts managing Varroa destructor. Plus, in case I need to know, I can also now manually calibrate a boom sprayer!

Deep into Cert 3 in Horticulture now. Term 2 and Chemicals and Safe Chemical Transportation part of the program. Relieved to see 'bees' being considered as part of the livestock impacts of agricultural and horticultural chemical usage. Now for some greater rigor in monitoring and compliance when it comes to usage and spray drift during almond pollination.

Christmas bees enjoying this mornings sunshine on a Globe Artichoke bloom. The flowers make spectacular cut specimens and are super long lasting. The char grilled artichoke hearts are pretty special too.

Spring is here (a little early according to the calendar). Sweet little bee foraging on backyard blossom for nectar and pollen.

Unloading hives at first drop point after a challenging overnight trip. Had to change a shredded trailer tyre with bees on board. 🐝

Last load of bees moved into the Mallee ready for almond pollination in August. A warmer and drier location for the bees. The Ezyloader crane makes such a huge difference in reducing loading and unloading time and eliminating our biggest injury risk - manual handling. A quick sausage roll and coffee from the fab Ouyen Bakery before heading home.

Great honey tasting session at Sovereign Hill this morning, stepping honey lovers through the finer points of the delicious honey varieties we have for sale.

Busy, selfless bees, collecting nectar and pollen during these warm Autumn days. An extended beekeeping season with plenty of urban forage still available.
