🐎 Gastric Ulcers - wondering why you should have your horse scoped first rather than just conducting a treatment trial?
✅ Scoping gives you a clear picture of what’s going on in your horse's stomach so there is no guessing and therefore no wasting money on unnecessary medications!
✅ If ulcers are diagnosed then our veterinarians can give you a specific treatment plan based on the severity of the changes seen.
✅ Repeat gastroscopy can also be useful when it comes to assessing the response to treatment and devising a longterm management plan.
Take the guesswork out of gastric ulcer treatment and management, book your horse in for gastroscopy at Ballarat Equine Clinic.
👉 Our next Gastroscopy Day is scheduled for September 25, 2024 Cost $150.00 per horse.
📲 Call the Clinic on 5334 6756 to book.

Paddock Accident
After an unfortunate paddock accident, this horse developed a small tear in her oesophagus and a large abscess on her neck.
With the use of ultrasonography to carefully map the abscess and its relationship to the vital structures of the neck such as blood vessels and nerves, Dr Travis Smyth was then able to carefully establish drainage. Almost 2 litres of pus was removed!
With good drainage, regular flushing and excellent aftercare, we are pleased to report that the abscess resolved and the oesophageal tear healed uneventfully.
Thankfully there have been no long term complications and the filly has made a full recovery.

Dynamic upper respiratory tract endoscopy with Dr Tom Dolan.
🐎 Dynamic upper respiratory tract endoscopy with Dr Tom Dolan.
At Ballarat Equine Clinic we have vast experience in upper respiratory endoscopy.
Our preferred method for dynamic scopes is to use a treadmill.
Examining the horse’ larynx and pharynx during intense exercise enables us to diagnose the cause of any abnormal respiratory noise or respiratory related abnormalities resulting in poor performance issues.
Once a diagnosis has been made an appropriate treatment plan can be determined.
Need your horse scoped? Contact the Clinic on 5331 1533 and make an appointment with Dr Dolan!

The Lameness Exam (Part 2)
Having assessed your horse’s leg and foot conformation, palpated your horse’s limbs and noted any abnormalities, your veterinarian will then palpate your horse’s back for any signs of pain or discomfort.
📸 Equine Surgeon Dr Massimo Delli-Rocili’s patient clearly reacting to palpation of the back especially over the lumbar and sacral region.
