International 5 star judge Isobel Wessels is returning to Wetterau, just three months after she will judge the best dressage riders in the world at the Paris Olympics!

After hosting Isobel at the beginning of 2024, we are delighted that she is returning for another four day clinic this November.

Top international competitor in her own right, Isobel has trained many horses to Grand Prix level and won 10 national titles in the UK. Judging and training all over the world we are very excited to welcome her expertise for a second time this year.

Well done to Meaghan Willis and Kristabella Park De Amor who had their first go at PSG this weekend , winning on the Sunday with 68.68%
Meaghan trains regularly with Vanessa and Debbie .

Also to David Shoobridge and Vittorio DS who won the 4.1 with 72.15% and is also a regular at Vanessa’s clinics .

Wetterau would like to send a huge congratulations to a regular at our Vanessa Way clinics, Liv Gillespie and Nottingham GP, on winning the final of the 6YO young horse class at the SYDNEY CDI - International Dressage Event with 88.8%!

This week we farewell a very special woman who mum and our family have known since forever.

Mum met Leigh McPhee through the Swan Hill and Barham Pony Clubs when mum and Leigh’s children were all little and riding, some 30 odd years ago.

Our families shared many great times at rallies and the annual horse riding camp.

Leigh and her daughter Stacey came for lessons regularly and attended clinics with Richard Weis at Barham and Leigh and her husband Les did the big overseas trip with a group of mum and her friends to the WEG in Aachen in 2006 which was a lot of fun.

Recently Leigh came to watch the Pedro Torres and Vanessa Way clinics which she just loved . Her passion for horses was immense and she was open to further her knowledge at every chance. She was a lovely woman, strong until the end, and we are all glad we knew her. Love to her family. Xo

Another fantastic weekend at Wetterau with Vanessa Way!

It’s a privilege to host such a brilliant instructor with such a great bunch of Aussie riders.

Well done to Vanessa Way who was first and second in the the PSG and the inter I with NSC Furst Rock DW and NSC Jolie DW. Australian judge Jane Ventura had Jolie first with over 75%. 😊🥳🙌🙌👏👏👏👏😖👏

That’s a wrap on the first classical riding tour for 2024. What’s sets this tour apart from your average riding holiday is the quality of instruction and the quality of horses. These aren’t your average schoolmasters, but well trained, maintained and loved horses that can show riders how it should feel. The first classical riding tour for 2024 is well under way. Feedback from today “It was unbelievable” and “No words can explain” make me feel incredibly proud of this very special experience. It’s not often you can go on a riding holiday and actually train with the worlds very best classical masters.

This year I will be running an online Classical Position workshop with Debbie Warne.

It will be a month long workshop going through the fundamentals of the Classical Riding Position and discuss identifying how position affects the horse.

The workshop will include

Step by step guide to detecting problems in your riding position and addressing them. Professional photos and video of correct vs incorrect riding positions and detailed descriptions of how this effects the horses way of going.

Weekly videos on selected rider parts ie hands, legs, hips, and discussing ways to improve their effectiveness and relaxation

Videos of a classical rider position with examples of common mistakes/weaknesses and how this translates to horse weaknesses, training and/or behavioural problems.

Video of the Grand Prix movements done in a classical way and discussion about the difference between correct and incorrect high level exercises.

Videos of simple and effective (10 minute) workouts you can do at home off the horse to improve strength and balance that are specific for riding.

On horse exercises to improve horse and rider balance and how to use exercises to correctly improve horse and rider strength,movement and balance.

Weekly discussion of a different position theme and ways to improve your position and aids in general.

A special clinic took place at Wetterau last weekend with property owner Debbie Warne (mum).

‘The clinic was amazing. All the riders and observers were so supportive and it’s great to learn in an environment that is nurturing and non-judgemental,” says Sally Mitchell.

“Debbie works with any rider level and horse ability with the same enthusiasm and energy. She gives her professionalism and depth of knowledge to anyone with an open mind who wants to learn, with the horses welfare paramount.”

Debbie Warne (mum) has had a life long passion for dressage. She is an NCSA level one instructor, former judge, and Grand Prix dressage rider.

Attending all the Nuno Oliveira clinics in Australia, Debbie has spent her life teaching around Victoria and New South Wales, and is an instructor and rider. Her main area of expertise is teaching in rider position, having trained with Richard Weis for many years.

“What makes Debbie stand out from other instructors is her amazing eye for detail and down to earth way of delivery, using words that conjure images that riders can relate to. Her follow up that ensures riders not only hear her words but feel the difference in their body and their connection to their horse,” adds Sally

Being able to recognise when the rider is out of balance with the horse and helping riders become aware of where they are blocking or restricting the horses balance is what mum is an expert in.
There is a big lack of position focus in dressage training, and it’s very hard for the horse to find his balance if the rider is not relaxed and stable in their own body.

“Debbie’s clinic was exceptional, with amazing facilities, and most importantly the knowledge of such a talented horse rider and trainer. Everyone was so welcoming and I loved every bit,” says young rider Asha Fiedler.

“I learned so much, both riding and spectating. Debbie focused on building suppleness in my green horse through accepting the contact and bending through the body. Under Debbie’s instruction, he has improved so quickly! We can all say we look forward to the next one,” adds Asha.
