Yes, it is winter and we are still getting a blowout like this. Double coated breeds do go through 'coat drops' where the deshedding process is much bigger, but they also require very regular maintenance grooms all year round. Their coats are designed to both heat and cool them, and if we are leaving their dead undercoat unattended, their coats can not function efficiently. Loki is groomed every 8 weeks and still drops this much coat.

2024 price increase

I understand that times are tough for a lot of people right now and as such, I have opted to forego our annual price increase to grooming services. I truly do aim to provide a quality service to our clients within a realistic price bracket.

That being said, I will be enforcing the cancellation, late to appointment/pick up and no show fees. This is something I have been very slack on. I completely understand that things happen unexpectedly. Sadly over the last 2 months I have seen a dramatic increase in people cancelling appointments very last minute, arriving late to appointments or picking pets up very late after their grooms and some people simply not showing up at all. All of these things seriously impact a service based industry. So please, please, if you have other commitments that you need to work around, communicate with me before your appointment and I can usually be flexible.

Our current service agreement that is signed by all clients prior to services commencing outlines the policies and fees applicable for the above mentioned points.

As always, your support and understanding is so appreciated

What I can and can’t do as your dog groomer

• I can listen to your dog and respect their boundaries if there is something that they don’t like. I can’t push them and force a task on them that they are not comfortable with.

• I can work with your dog and show them that some of the big scary things (dryer) aren’t scary at all.

• I can’t do a beautiful, styled groom on a matted coat. I can safely and humanely shave off matting and provide you with tools and knowledge to care for your dog’s coat.

• I can provide a quality and caring service in the time slot allocated. I can’t rush through your dog’s groom because you were 10mins late to your appointment.

• I can’t work with your dog if their cup is already full. I can give you tactics and recommendations to assist your dog to feel more confident with their grooms (yes this sometimes includes medications for anxiety).

• I can’t prevent your dog’s coat from matting if you don’t put in the brushing work at home. I can give your dog a beautiful groom if their coat is well maintained and I can show you how to do this.

• I can notice things about your dog (lumps, potential ear infections, sore joints, etc,). I can’t diagnose your dog with any medical conditions and all advice is purely general advice (your vet knows best).

I would like to thank each and every one of our clients and their amazing pets for giving us such a successful and happy year. I hope you all have a lovely and safe Christmas.
While 2024 will look a little different for Pet Pals Co with saying goodbye to our pet sitting services, I know there are many more wonderful things on the way for my business.

With only a few weeks left of grooming before we take our Christmas break, we ask that you please take note of the following

🐾 You must respond Y/N to your appointment reminder SMS and take note of the day/time of your booking. If we do not get a response, we will assume your appointment needs to be cancelled.

🐾 If you need to reschedule your appointment, please be aware that we will struggle to fit you in before Feb 2024.

🐾 Please allow additional travel time for the extra traffic. We would much rather you be a little early than late. More than 10mins late will result in your appointment being marked as a 'no show' and fees will apply. There is a lovely walking track right beside our salon that you can explore if you are early.

We know this is such a crazy time of year, and we have pushed ourselves to the limits to accommodate extra bookings leading up to Christmas. We do greatly appreciate your cooperation in ensuring our day runs smoothly and all the pooches feel pampered and ready for Santa Paws 🎅

**VERY IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT**

This is quite possibly the hardest thing I will ever write, and no words easily come to mind.

It is with a very heavy heart that I announce that as of January 15th, 2024, I will be closing the pet minding/dog walking side of the Pet Pals Co business.

This has absolutely been one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make. I understand the importance of the service that we provide, I too rely on it for my own pets, however there are a number of factors that have brought me to my decision.

I started Pet Pals Co from the ground up over 7 years ago. Throughout that time the business has grown unimaginably, however with this growth has come some struggles. Staffing such a particular role has posed challenges over the years and inflating costs have limited our ability to offer an affordable pet care option to our clients as much as we would like. I am also a single parent to 3 young children and as they grow, so do their schooling and social commitments.

There are a few other factors involved but all in all, it is a decision I have had to come to for the wellbeing of my family and staff.

I will still be offering grooming services under the Pet Pals Co umbrella, and I hope to still see a lot of you through this service.

I will miss the daily updates, photos and the support and love you have all given us over the last 7 years. We have survived so many trials and tribulations over this time, even making it through Covid travel restrictions, and we have so many amazing memories and lifelong friends.

I would like to hold hope that Pet Pals Co can recoup pet minding in the years to come, but for now, we need this time to pause and reflect.

So, for the moment, it is business as usual until our farewell on January 15th, 2024.

Have we ever mentioned how much we LOVE our job?! How cute are these little babies enjoying their playtime during one of our many pet minding visits this weekend 😍 🐱

Let's talk double coats! Double coated breeds are defined by having 2 coats. A harsh topcoat and a soft undercoat. The 2 coats grow independently of one another and to 2 different lengths. The soft undercoat is shorter and grows much faster than the topcoat. The undercoat is what sheds and release multiple times a year. As you can see in this video of Arnold being groomed, the white fluffy undercoat is being blown out and releasing, leaving a beautiful black and silky topcoat. Professional grooming is required on a regular 6 - 8 weekly schedule for these breeds to maintain their coat and ensure it works effectively to both heat and cool them. While we definitely create a bit of a snowstorm mess when doing a deshed, we just can't go past the stunning end result and this makes it all worth it. This morning I've added echo's breakfast to a puzzle toy instead of a traditional food bowl. This is a great way to really get his mind thinking and to provide some enrichment on these rainy days. We quite often take puzzle toys, kongs and other enrichment tools to our pet minding visits to help eliminate boredom while you are away. Look at him go!

Being this relaxed and falling asleep during your groom is totally encouraged here at Pet Pals Dog Grooming. If only we could sleep on the job too 🤣
