Hey guys Jess here, just wanted to share what I worked on today with Freddo who is coming back into work after having laminitis.
Dad has put a gazebo in my round yard for Bermudo to have shade while he is staying here. As you can hear it’s a very windy day the gazebo is flapping and squeaking Fred was not happy about this and spotted it as we were walking toward the round yard. He has always been a flighty horse so I assumed this may be something we could work on. We started work down the hill toward the round yard doing the ‘open the gate’ exercise once we got into the round yard which he wasn’t keen on we continued and backing toward and under the gazebo once this flowed I took the halter off and started ‘don’t change gate don’t change direction’ until he started to go underneath him self. This started as him rushing underneath. I then started asking for him to draw to me and sending him back under which now I can point and send him through in any direction and gait desired at liberty.
Liberty and round yard work is my favourite thing to do with my horses as you can see the connection between yourself and your horse. You become in tune with your body language and how this affects your horse which also improves your time in the saddle.
These are tools to help your horse trust you and look to you for direction and guidance even when there is something scary they think might eat them. In this instance the gazebo. This is shown with fred in this video. I wish I had a video of the beginning of the session but I couldn’t set up my phone with him jumping around 😂
These are exercises Greg teaches at his clinics.
Come along and create a stronger connection with your horse while working through issues you may face on the day or anytime while working or riding. Lean these tools which will help you manage difficult behaviour and help keep you safe. You can also just do this stuff because it’s fun to play together with your horse while improving ev
Great opportunity to enjoy nature.....☯️
