We are thrilled with how Chicago Field is going in his new home with Ellie Kelaart of Project Ponies.

Ellie is a wonderfully talented and skilled rider and horse person and exactly the kind of knowledgeable and experienced home we always want our retired racehorses to end up in.

Ellie has a proven record with all kinds of project horses through her and her sister’s joint venture of which we have been a big fan of for years now.

Victoria Park to host freestyle BMX and cross country equestrian during 2032 Games

It will be Brisbane’s biggest new park in 50 years once finished, and it’s set to go global in 2032 with plans to use the green space for two key Olympic events.

Jack McKay

The River City’s biggest new park in half a century will be transformed into an Olympics venue for the Brisbane 2032 Games, hosting the freestyle BMX and cross country equestrian events.
Temporary Olympic venues will now be factored into the planning of the new Victoria Park, with the 64 hectare inner-city green space to be given global exposure from the sporting spectacle.
The mega park – with its extraordinary views – is set to cater for 25,000 spectators to cheer on the cross country equestrian competitors and for 5,000 people to watch the freestyle BMX, under current plans.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner pointed to how London’s famous Hyde Park hosted the Olympic triathlon events during the 2012 Games.

“And Brisbane’s best new park, Victoria Park, will be known worldwide once it hosts Olympic events in 2032,” he said.

“Victoria Park is set to be more than just a world-class parkland, it will also be a world-class Olympic venue.

“Come 2032, Victoria Park will be well connected with two Brisbane Metro stations, making it the perfect site for an Olympic venue.

“It’s hard to believe that BMX riders will be flying through the air and horses being ridden over a 4 km course and jumping over up to forty obstacles in a park right in the heart of Brisbane’s inner-city.”

Temporary Olympic-standard facilities will be installed at the park for the duration of the Games.

Cr Schrinner said there were two Olympic debutants representing Australia at the Tokyo Games in the BMX freestyle event, with both athletes from Queensland.

“With Brisbane now confirmed as the host city in 2032, I’m confident many young BMX and equestrian riders will be inspired to pursue their sporting passion in a bid to compete in one of the biggest parks in their home city,” he said.

Victoria Park will be Brisbane’s biggest new park in over 50 years once complete, and will be more than double the size of the City Botanic Gardens.

The site opened up to the public this month after the golf course was closed despite a change.org petition to save it.

The course and clubhouse opened at Victoria Park in 1931.

“Now with the Olympic and Paralympic Games secured for Brisbane, we will be factoring the inclusion of temporary Olympic venues into our plans going forward,” Cr Schrinner said.

Well done to Chloe Burger and Balmoral Déjà Vu for placing 3rd in their first ever 1* eventing competition together yesterday!

Ringo raced as Pacific Ring in New South Wales many years ago. We had him for several years as an eventer before selling him to the wonderful Burger family. He is now 18 years old and still in excellent condition, a real testament to the top notch care he receives from the Burgers.

A sad day at Lilivale Stud today with the humane euthanisation of one of our old horses, Monteal Beau. Sadly Monty Junior had succumbed to arthritis, with medication no longer keeping him comfortable.

Monty Junior had a pretty interesting life as a racehorse. 34 starts for just 1 win and 6 places, he was registered as having raced under 8 different racehorse trainers, which is more than most horses would ever experience in their racing careers.

We ended up with Junior as we saw a Horse Deals ad for a 4YO horse off the track in search of a future eventer. When we got there, the 4YO was lovely and quiet but really didn’t have the right movement and was more suited to pleasure riding. Trainer Gary Teal advised he also had a 9YO horse who DID have the right movement, and so we took him home despite thinking he was perhaps a little ‘old’ for what we were after.

Monty proved to be the most challenging of any horse we’ve ever had due to his very hot nature - we definitely bit off more than we could chew at the time with the knowledge we had back then. He most certainly was a natural jumper though, and was also quite brave.

Sadly he injured himself in the float going to a dressage lesson one day and was never 100% sound after that, so we really never got to see the best of his jumping ability. We have a commitment to all of our horses that we will look after them for the rest of their lives and that is what we have done for Junior. We are comforted knowing that he is pain free now. Rest In Peace big fella 💔

We look forward to seeing Endless Don out and about with his new owner! Donny had his last race in June 2018 so he has had plenty of time to unwind from his racing days and prepare for life with his new owner. Thanks to JAMES EQUESTRIAN for all of their hard work over the last couple of years in retraining Donny and finding his new home.

Congratulations to the new owner of Endless Don!

Don is the first of the horses through Lilivale Stud, Barr Racing and James Equestrians rehoming program. It's a great collaboration where the horses come first and result in a happy, educated ex racehorse that has a fantastic future in his loving new home.

Grateful for this photo finish to turn out in our favour today!

MARTINA (Time For War x Endless Shadow) broke her maiden today at the Sunshine Coast Turf Club with jockey Michael Cahill aboard, at only her second start. Michael is such a wonderful experienced jockey and we are so grateful to have him guiding our horses.

Martina is only a small girl proving that it’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog.

Her dam Endless Shadow has now produced two foals for two winners, both by Time For War. Unfortunately Time For War died suddenly back in 2016 so we cannot produce another of this winning formula but we look forward to seeing what else our beloved mare can produce over the coming years.

We love it when memories pop up to remind us how lucky we’ve been to have great horses. Endless Days went on to win $300k on the track with Hulbert Racing. He retired in April 2020 and is now with Hayden of JAMES EQUESTRIAN going great guns in his retraining, learning to be a riding horse for his life after racing.

Another great little article on our recent success

We are devastated to hear of the passing of Dr Brian Sheahan, Lilivale Stud’s vet for many years while we were based in the beautiful Samford Valley in South East Queensland.

Brian was second to none in his veterinarian skills and was always very encouraging of our horse endeavours, with great advice and mentorship. Brian was a real asset to the horse world in his time.

Our sincerest condolences to Brian’s family including his son James who currently works full time in the horse world, carrying on much of the wisdom passed down to him from his father.

We believe in the importance of paddock socialisation. Especially for racehorses, who are in stables while they are in training. When they come home to the farm for a spell (holiday), this is their time to be in amongst other horses in the paddock and truly socialise as much as possible before going back into training.

Thrilled with W***y Be Lucky winning his Class 1 over 1650m at Beaudesert today carrying 59kg and paying $21+.
We have had to be patient with W***y as he loves to place. 33 starts now for 2 wins, 5 seconds and 5 thirds. He runs consistently well so we knew a second win was going to come eventually. Thanks to Michael Hellyer for a top ride, he is a big horse and can be tiring to ride. But he is a lovely big guy who is a real pleasure to have around the stables and the farm.

Endless Mystery (Olympic Glory (Ire) x Endless Maize) trained by Stewart Barr won strongly first up with Michael Hellyer yesterday on Melbourne Cup Day at the Sunshine Coast Turf Club.

Thanks to Michael for sticking with him after trialling him for us recently. He is a big strong horse with an even bigger personality.
