Meet Cruz who came into GRR’s care in 2022. Soon after his arrival at GRR a lump was detected and removed. The news from pathology showed that the lump was cancerous. Given his diagnosis and thinking that Cruz’s time left in the world would be short, GRR placed Cruz with a foster family to ensure he received the very best of care until it was his time to leave. That was two years ago and it appears that Cruz is having such a great time at his foster home that he’s not going anywhere soon.

While in care, 13.5-year-old Cruz has been taking Antinol to help with his movement, and this boy is actually running out into the paddock every morning, and he’s not far behind his younger Golden foster brothers and sister. However, the regular Antinol supplement has also improved Cruz’s skin and coat and you have to admit he’s a handsome older gent.

The latest great news is that GRR is now an accredited Antinol Rescue Partner, and while the dogs in GRR’s care benefit from everything that being a Rescue Partner brings, Antinol has also extended an offer to all GRR’s friends and followers so that your dogs can also benefit from GRR’s partnership. Simply by using GRR’s Unique Partner Code R7919326 when you place your order for Antinol gel caps you will receive a discount on your purchase.

The Team at Antinol is pleased that GRR is sharing the Unique Partner Code with our followers so that all of our dogs can enjoy the benefits of Antinol Gel Caps.

Keeping the rescue Goldies fed with healthy food while in care is an ongoing process, and one of the regular monthly deliveries to HQ are boxes of Farrells 4X2 Biscuits.

When many of the rescues arrive in care, they are stressed, and while they refuse to eat their night meal for a few days, they rarely refuse a 4X2 Biscuit.

Having the bright idea of having one of the rescues pose with the boxes of biscuits proved to be an exhausting process with one dog trying to rip the boxes open, but finally Abby, a Goldie from an intensive breeding facility, found her courage and with the promise of a 4X2 Biscuit she decided to come close and even found her smile for the photo shoot.

GRR is smiling as well as the fabulous people from Farrells have advised that have decided to support the rescue Goldies and are making regular monthly deliveries of the 4x2 Biscuits free of charge.

Much loved Goldies also enjoy Farrells 4x2 Biscuits so remember to support the Company that is supporting the rescue Goldies and check out their website www.farrellspetfood.com.au

GRR and the rescue Goldies send our grateful thanks to Farrells for their generosity

Saturday was a big day for Winter as she left her foster home on the first part of her journey to her forever home. While a little shy on first meeting with her new family, Winter warmed up so quickly that within a short period of time, she was trying to climb into her mum’s lap. Then it was time to leave on the second part of her journey to a property in Southern NSW where she will meet her new Golden sister, Lacey, some cows and a few chickens. Once settled Winter and her family will be enjoying days at the beach, exploring the farm and finding her spot on the couch.

Six months ago, life was looking very bleak for Winter, but with the help of her foster carers, she learned how to be part of a loving family. Sometimes, it can take a village, so there are many people to thank who were involved with Winter’s journey to find her forever home.

What a great day for the GRR Rescue Day Out!

Weather perfect, all of GRR’s regular friends turned up to man the stalls and Goldies brought their families along to enjoy a fun day and there was a sea of Goldies. No longer waiting for a forever home but part of loving homes whose families thought their Goldie was the best dog there on the day, and they were all right.

Thank you to everyone who came to the Rescue Day Out. For all of us who foster, transport and help in so many ways, it was wonderful to catch up with former foster dogs and their new families. Many thanks to the regular helpers who wrap raffle prizes, pack up the Christmas Cards and transport the tents and all the goodies to Blacktown Grounds. To all the helpers who year after year turn up to groom, set up stalls and sell up a storm, thank you so much.

The Rescue Parade was the hit of the afternoon and had the largest number of Goldies GRR has seen. It’s been a busy couple of years.

Special thanks to Blacktown Kennel Club who donated the use of the grounds and will continue to donate on a yearly basis. Thank you Len & Lyn who supervised the Agility run and a big thank you to Trevor who ran the BBQ and sold out of everything by the end of the day and no wonder as he made the best sausage sandwich with everything according to everyone on the grounds.

We were all “dog tired” after having spent a Golden day out and look forward to doing it all again next year.

It's the news you have been waiting for!

The GRR 2025 Calendars, Diary and Christmas Cards have arrived and we are all thrilled with the result. Dozens of photos of gorgeous Goldens who had come to GRR looking for their second chance of a forever family.

Thank you to Denise from Gainsborough Graphics who has been putting the GRR Calendars, Diary and Christmas Card collection together for more years than we all care to remember. Also, a bucketful of thanks to Heather and Michael from Minuteman Press located in Kensington and Lonsdale St Melbourne CBD, who, year after year do a fantastic job producing the GRR Calendars, Diary and Christmas Cards. The production of the GRR 2025 Calendar selection is overseen by their sweet Golden girl, Del who expects the best and looking at these Calendars, Del wasn’t disappointed.

The Calendars, Diary and Christmas Cards are now listed on GRR’s Online Store www.grr.org.au/store.htm

Meet Marley, an eighteen-month-old Golden Retriever and a first of his kind at GRR. Marley's unique albino-like appearance comes with special requisites, including wearing Rex Specs for eye protection when outdoors and the need for pet-safe sunscreen to shield his sensitive nose from the sun. While Marley's unique appearance sets him apart, his golden heart and playful spirit make Marley a pleasure to have around. He has settled in nicely with his foster siblings, behaves well on lead, and is always eager to greet new friends—both human and canine.

Marley is looking for a forever home where he can spend most of his time indoors, while still being part of the family's daily life. His ideal family would be committed to continuing his training with Rex Specs and diligent in applying sunscreen when outdoors. A home with another medium or large dog would be perfect for Marley, as he thrives in the company of other settled dogs. For the safety of all, we're looking for a household without children under 12 years of age.

If you're ready to open your heart and home to Marley, please check out his poster on the Current Rescue’s page on GRR’s website www.grr.org.au. If you meet all the requirements listed for Marley, please complete the adoption questionnaire. We look forward to hearing from you.

Next Sunday the 13th October is the GRR Rescue Day Out. There has been lots of wrapping, packing and all of us at GRR are looking forward to catching up with former Goldie rescues, current Goldie rescues and all the Goldie’s families and foster carers.

Recently added to the Monster Raffle that has over 50 Prizes is the wonderful prize of a Weekend (Public Holidays excluded) at Pet Friendly Property, Blue Patch at Culburra.

GRR helpers are ready to man the Stalls and Blacktown Kennel Club will be making sure that we are all fed.

Special thanks to Blacktown Kennel Club who have a long time association with GRR and are not only taking care of the BBQ but have also donated the hire of these grounds.

Hope to see lots of Goldie rescues (and their humans) there!

Our page banner features Cameron and Lando, who are enjoying their time in foster care, where they spend their time playing, going on walks and learning how to become well-mannered members of a family.

Cameron has found his forever home, and GRR will continue to search for the home that will be the perfect fit for Lando while his foster carer continues to show this handsome lad how to improve his inside manners.

While GRR is always pleased to receive updates on Goldies that have found wonderful forever homes there are some emails that leave us saddened and such is the case with a recent ‘phone call followed by an email advising that this family was happy for GRR to place a post on FB.

On Tuesday at approximately 11.30am a gorgeous Golden boy left this world. He was known by several names, Cheeky Charlie, Cee Cee, Bear and My Boy and his life would not have been if not for a bunch of people who turned up at this boy’s foster home for many months to massage, apply creams, bath and encourage this young dog to walk again.

In March 2012 a very brave person stopped traffic in Five Dock and demanded help from people to carry an injured dog into a nearby vet. GRR was alerted and this young Golden was taken to Benny & the Pets Kogarah who advised that GRR needed to reach out to David Lidbetter. X-rays showed that recently named Charlie had broken his pelvis on both sides and David agreed to operate at a very reduced rate. The rehab was long and exhausting but Charlie made it and then it was time for a forever home.

Charlie lived out his life with a very special family who became friends and this allowed Charlie’s carer to see him on a regular basis. Just one week ago when Charlie’s family picked up a foster dog Charlie’s previous carer spent time with her special boy. He was happy, he was walking around and he was enjoying life until he wasn’t and when the time came, his family surrounded him with everyone he loved and sent him on his way.

A bunch of people gave this boy 12 and a half years because they cared and wanted to give him a wonderful home. They succeeded.

Golden Retriever Khai is on the mend after his SRMA treatment. Steroid-Responsive Meningitis-Arteritis, an inflammatory disease in dogs, often requires long-term treatment with steroids and other medications. Khai still has months of meds before treatment stops.

Khai's recovery was made possible thanks to your generous donations which helped cover the costs of his medical treatment and ensured that he received the best possible care. The love shown by the GRR community has given Khai a chance at a healthy and happy life.

Our sincerest thanks to his medical team and all who have been instrumental in providing Khai with the best possible attention on his journey to recovery.

Late in 2016, GRR picked up four Golden girls from the RSPCA in Sydney. Terrified, they cringed and had to be carried to the car and arrived at HQ not knowing how to eat from a bowl, walk on a lead or understand that a human hand meant love and kindness.

The most shut down dog found a loving home with Lisa and Ian at Team Golden Oldies. This dog’s new beginning was marked with a new name, Poppy. This name inspired the renaming of her companions: Lily, Jasmine, and Rose. They became known as the Flower Girls.

Once a nameless soul trapped in the life of a breeding machine, Poppy found a sanctuary filled with love and patience. After she arrived at TGO, Poppy stayed in the house or yard, her safe place. In seven years she never went for a long walk or a drive. When Poppy went to Rainbow Bridge Lisa decided that Poppy should travel to the four corners of the world; to ‘step out’ of her safe corner.

By asking TGO followers to spread her ashes in various locations that were special to them, Poppy's spirit embarked on an adventure. This resonated deeply with many people and created a tapestry of new memories and experiences for all who new Poppy.

For GRR it culminated in a poignant moment when Louise, long-time friend and supporter of GRR, offered to take Poppy’s ashes to the UK. Poppy arrived at Guisachan House in the Scottish Highlands, the birthplace of the Golden Retriever. The names of the puppies from the historic first litter were Primrose, Cowslip, and Crocus. They, like Poppy, were flower dogs. Poppy: now forever connected to the origins of her lineage.

Our banner boy is 5 year old Bosley who is leaving for his forever home in the next few days. There is a lot of Bosley to love and he has been on a diet since his arrival into care. Recently Bosley had a hydrobath and groom and he was keen to show off his new look. Given the big smile it looks as though Bosley approves. One lucky family is very excited and looking forward to welcoming this happy, handsome boy into their home.

Fourteen-month-old Tango came into the care of GRR in December 2023 and received a diagnosis from the Veterinary Specialists of Sydney of Severe Subaortic Stenosis (SAS) with aortic regurgitation. Tango was prescribed medication twice a day, 12 hours apart and Tango’s foster carer was advised that this boy’s life would be short. The decision was made that Tango would stay in GRR’s care and live at GRR HQ where he could receive Specialist Veterinary care and enjoy life for as long as that may be.

Last week Tango attended VSoS for a repeat echocardiogram and GRR has received a report which has put a smile on everyone’s face. The report contained the words “the aortic regurgitation has decreased in severity from marked to mild/moderate and the left atrial size is reduced mildly in size. The decrease in aortic insufficiency and left atrial size is pleasing.” The report also included ‘while sudden death will always be a risk Tango should enjoy a healthy life for the next one to two years. Tango returns for a repeat scan in 12 months.

GRR would like to thank Karina Graham and everyone at VSoS who love Tango and take such great care of him while he stays with them for his tests. Thanks also to GRR’s go to for Natural Therapies, Helen Anderson, for providing back up support to help GRR help Tango to have a healthy life for whatever time that may be.

Golden Retriever Rescue shares the tragic news on the loss of one of our own, Tony Knight.

To us, he was the Dog Listener and the go-to guy when a surrendered Goldie arrived with behavioural problems, but he was so much more. Friend, teacher, trivia night aficionado, helper at GRR Fundraisers, welcome guest in our homes, mentor to many foster carers, and the reason so many Golden Retrievers have gone on to find wonderful homes over the years.

Attached is a photo of Tony & His Pushiness, Sir Roger of the House of Spoilt Rotten, taken at an AB Training Day many years ago. It was with Tony’s help that Roger became a special and much-loved boy as he visited his many fans in NSW and Victoria. GRR knows that with all the wonderful work Tony shared with so many dogs he will be visiting Rainbow Bridge and Roger will be pushing to the front of the queue to greet him.

To Tony’s mother, Jan Fennell and to the love of his life, Hayley Wright, GRR sends our heartfelt condolences.

Tony’s loss is immense, but his legacy will live on in all of us who knew, loved, and learned from him.
