What a great day for the GRR Rescue Day Out!
Weather perfect, all of GRR’s regular friends turned up to man the stalls and Goldies brought their families along to enjoy a fun day and there was a sea of Goldies. No longer waiting for a forever home but part of loving homes whose families thought their Goldie was the best dog there on the day, and they were all right.
Thank you to everyone who came to the Rescue Day Out. For all of us who foster, transport and help in so many ways, it was wonderful to catch up with former foster dogs and their new families. Many thanks to the regular helpers who wrap raffle prizes, pack up the Christmas Cards and transport the tents and all the goodies to Blacktown Grounds. To all the helpers who year after year turn up to groom, set up stalls and sell up a storm, thank you so much.
The Rescue Parade was the hit of the afternoon and had the largest number of Goldies GRR has seen. It’s been a busy couple of years.
Special thanks to Blacktown Kennel Club who donated the use of the grounds and will continue to donate on a yearly basis. Thank you Len & Lyn who supervised the Agility run and a big thank you to Trevor who ran the BBQ and sold out of everything by the end of the day and no wonder as he made the best sausage sandwich with everything according to everyone on the grounds.
We were all “dog tired” after having spent a Golden day out and look forward to doing it all again next year.
A visit to VSoS today to catch up with Tilly who is scheduled for a CT scan on Thursday.
Arriving into GRR's care at 11 weeks of age this tiny girl went through liver shunt surgery and although it was touch and go for a while Tilly fought hard and is now a delightful, cheeky and thoroughly spoilt seven month old.
It's a huge day for Tilly tomorrow and Tilly's foster carer has promised to keep us updated. All fingers toes and paws crossed for a successsful outcome so that Tilly can get on with leading a normal Golden life.
A very busy weekend at GRR with Lacey leaving with her new family today. Lacey was asked if she would like to snuggle on the lounge, sleep on their bed, run around their farm and go to the beach on a regular basis. Lacey said yes so she jumped in the car, settled herself comfortably on the back seat and left for her forever home.
Bye bye Lacey the good times have just begun.
Another Christmas update from Scout who arrived at GRR with chronic dietary health issues. A visit to VSoS and help from Animal Equilibrium soon had Scout on the road to recovery. Scout has grown into one handsome Goldie who appears on the cover of GRR's 2023 Dairy.
GRR received a call from Tilly's surgeon just now advising that Tilly has come through her shunt surgery and is awake. The shunt is large and Tilly will need to be monitored for four months and continue on her special food until her next check at VSoS. The surgeon is pleased with the outcome and GRR is over moon the moon to know that Tilly will be home in three days. What a little fighter she is and GRR and Tilly send our thanks to you all for your prayers, well wishes and healing thoughts. Photo of Tilly the day before surgery for reference as Tilly is not at her best right now as she is still feeling the effects of the anaesthetic.
Meet eight year old Juno who is a very special girl looking for a very special home. GRR always looks for just the right fit for every dog but in Juno’s case, it will take a very specific family to welcome this sweet little girl into their home. Juno does not appear to be all Goldie and is very tiny weighing only 19kgs. This cheeky girl is very different and is never very far from her tennis ball and she will encourage you to play with the ball all day, without stopping. When not playing ball Juno digs in an effort to escape so that she can be by your side. Juno does not like to be left alone. This girl can jump a 1.5m pool fence without a run up and will be destructive in an effort to escape the home in an effort to be with you. Her foster carer has renamed her Miss Houdini. Juno is very protective of balls and toys and is best suited in a home where she is the only dog.
GRR is always being told that there is a home suited to every dog, so somewhere out there is a family who take their dog everywhere they go. Juno is happy to be in a crate but can escape silently without causing much damage to the crate. This girl has run around with the resident Goldies but she is not interested in them but will tell them off if they go near her toys or balls. Water is another favourite of Juno and her foster carer fills up the buckets many times a day as Juno treats her water bucket as her private swimming pool.
If you think that you are that one is a million family who would like to welcome Juno to be part of your family, please check out Juno’s poster on the Current Rescues page on GRR’s website.
Juno is in foster care in New South Wales.
Obi's surgery success!
Some good news about Obi’s surgery to repair his oesophagus. Although Obi has a fair bit of recovery time ahead of him, everything is looking positive for him to have a bright future - starting life as a regular Goldie pup.
A big thank you again to the vets and nurses at the Veterinary Specialists of Sydney. What a wonderful job they have done - the video speaks for itself as to how pleased everyone is with Obi’s progress!
Thanks also to everyone who has donated to help Obi to have this life-changing surgery – he is one lucky pup to have so many supporters.
Obi will still require care and medical attention over the coming months, so GRR is not taking applications for his forever home at this time.
