When your dog is anxious about something in their environment or about following a cue to do something, the last thing they need from us is saying “it’s ok, you’ll be ok”.
In saying this, we just reinforce their anxiety & fail our dog in giving them a solution to the anxiety.

We have 2 options…….
1) Move your dog away from person, place or thing, creating distance & reducing anxiety immediately. You can work on proximity & desensitising slowly over time.
2) Having built a foundation of trust & consequences with your dog in everyday training over time, encourage your dog to follow your cue. Never force their decision but make the right choice easy & the wrong choice a bit harder.

It’s amazing how much confidence your dog will develop in themselves & in you…..a fair, clear & consistent leader.

Well this text just made my day😀

A big Thankyou to Kelly. We've had an amazing breakthrough with our dog Derby. After years of dealing with reactivity towards other dogs & people, 2 sessions with Kelly & we have a completely different dog. She is super knowledgable & incredibly patient. She explained things in a way that was easy to understand. She was hands on & showed us what our dog needed from us. She truly loves & understands dogs.
Highly recommend TalkDog Training. We are thrilled with the success we've had.

Fantastic weather & great company.
Happy exercised dogs & kids.
Both outings we headed out without a definite destination which makes the adventure so much more fun.
Saturday was Oaky Beach South Durras & today was a walk through the bush & ended up on Sth Broulee beach.
We are so lucky to live in such a gorgeous part of the world.

Met this little chap today.
He’s a young feisty little dude that prioritises his own agenda & schedule.
Boot camp has begun & his human Jo will still be giving him affection, food & toys but just on her schedule now…not his.
Also working on some exercises during the walk that will help both of them navigate their environment when triggers & distractions appear.

First outing with my new Dobie friend Havoc❤️
Quite a nervous girl whose response to most things is panic & flight.
Spent time just getting to know her & being calm & still.
She’s a sensitive, lovely natured dog & it won’t take her long to gain confidence

Every one of my animals, past & present has their own Christmas ornament. I generally shed a few tears as I hang them & remember the ones I have loved & lost. Almost had a breakdown a few years ago when I dropped & smashed my boy Tai’s bauble….poor kids didn’t know what to do or say to their crazy hysterical mum😜
I love this tradition we have created.

I’ve been so spoilt over the last two weeks with 4 great young Lab’s.
First session with Elli today didn’t disappoint. Young & impulsive & just doing what benefits & feels good to her in that moment.
A very motivated quick learner.
Like all dogs….appreciating earning her rewards….food, affection & toys , learning that nothing in life is for free & understanding there are always rules to be followed

I was asked for some training help from an older gentleman with his 6mth old Lab that was pulling on walks for some loose lead training…..OMG!! was my initial thought.
This could go in any number of pear shaped directions!!
But it didn’t. It went so well.
Dennis is one feisty determined gent & Nora a responsive gentle young dog.
A training session that I won’t forget for a long time.
Thanks Dennis for a wonderful afternoon.

There is nothing natural about large numbers of unfamiliar dogs partaking in high-intensity activity in a dog park, and this shouldn’t be the benchmark for a social dog. If your dog is not their best in such an environment, you are not doing anything wrong. 👏👏 There is nothing wrong with your dog. 👏👏 Your dog is normal. 👏👏

BAILEY, TIM TAM & BEAU ❤️
3 gorgeous young dogs that I’ve had the privilege of working with recently.

Bailey the BC has selective hearing, independent young collie & likes to chew / destroy things if left to make her own choices. Loves her toys

Tim Tam also has selective hearing & is a very confident young girl. She’d take over the world if given the chance. Loves her food & toys when others are chasing them.

Beau & those mesmerising brown Beagle eyes. When that nose hits the ground….he’s off & away!! The world disappears behind him when he’s on a scent. Loves his food & toys.

Like with all dogs, freedom off lead & in the house needs to be earnt.
… be consistent with our dogs as to what the outcome is when they do good or not so good.
What does “yes” mean to our dog & what does “No or Ah Ah” mean or do our words just sound like “blah blah?”
